Sunday's D3 Hardbody races at Buena Park Raceway provided an extra race day since our regularly scheduled race last Sunday was cancelled due to a very lite turnout of racers. It was Father's Day last Sunday and the reopening of Electric Dreams with a swap meet attracted a very large crowd (including some of our hardbody racers).
Dennis Samson brought many of Jay Henry's hardbody slot car collection for our racers to see/buy today. The collection is being sold by Jay's family and some of our racers did buy some cars to help out Jay's family. Thanks to Dennis for helping out Jay's family.

The first race of the day was for GTPs. This is the fastest D3 Hardbody racing class at BPR as well as the best handling cars on the BPR MTT flat track.
Jim Lane showed the way by winning with Phil Nyland 2nd and Hector Gonzalez 3rd. The "Racer Handicap" podium had Jim 1st, Doug Jacks 2nd and Phil 3rd.

The second race was a "Mixed" race for any D3 hardbody racing class (except GTPs).
Phil Nyland won the "Lap Differential" race driving an Under 2 Liter Trans Am Mini Cooper with Jim Lane 2nd (NASCAR) and Dennis Samson 3rd (Short Track NASCAR).
The "Racer Handicap" podium had Russell Van Wyck 1st, Phil 2nd and Dennis 3rd. This was Russell's very first podium win ever and was well deserved. Russell is one of our original D3 Hardbody racers who started racing D3 hardbodies at BPR in 2007.

Thanks to Jim Watterson (and Eddie) for supporting D3 Hardbody Racing at Buena Park Raceway.
Thanks to our race director, Victor Dubrowsky.

The next D3 Hardbody races at BPR, Sunday, July18th. BPR Opens at 10 am, GTP race at noon sharp followed by the Mixed race after a lunch break.

Keith,

Would like to start building some hardbodies.  Can you post pictures of the chassis'/frames of these cars?  Thanks...

Don, if you check the D3 Hardbody Racing subforum on here, you'll find Keith's race reports going back to 2016. Unfortunately, most of the early reports no longer have photos.  I'll be surprised if Keith doesn't post in your thread. They had or have a hardbody BBS too. I know it had some construction articles. I had the link on my old computer, but not this one. It may not still exist.

Pablo & Bill, I don't see any chassis pictures.  I didn't go back through all the race reports - I'll do that later.

Don, if Keith doesn't post in a day or so, send him a PM telling him what you're looking for or want to build. He's been very good in the past sharing hard body car information. He is still quite a good chassis builder himself.

Here's the link to one of Keith's chassis builds posted on Slotblog.

Don, I just updated the D3 Hardbody Racing website which includes info on "How-To" build various hardbody chassis designs.

In addition, a new step by step video showing how Hector "Gonzo" Gonzalez builds his "pan articulating" chassis will be available soon. This new video is similar to the Mike Steube DVD I produced back in 2007.

The Steube DVD is dated (as far as current retro chassis designs) but many of the scratchbuilding techniques Mike demonstrates still apply. The Gonzo video is the same concept as far as being a one on one tutorial on how to build his hardbody chassis.

Just this past Sunday at Buena Park Raceway, I took some practice laps with the chassis built by Gonzo for the video. The lap times were better than any other GTP hardbody! 4.82 sec. on the black lane, 5.37 on the red lane! These are by far the fastest laps recorded by a D3 Hardbody car on the MTT flat track at BPR.
