This one is from Mark Onofri. Looks like a Revell 427 Comp Cobra prototype. It should be based on the "flip-top" Cobra that raced at Sebring.

Here is a picture of it from qualifying before Ken crashed it into a tree and it turned into "the turd" it was nicknamed.

Thanks Isaac. Yeah this one's really got me stumped. If it wasn't for the left hand windscreen, I'd swear it was a Ferrari. any ideas?

Most of the 289 Comp Cobra's had the small windshield. Revell probably took it from there.

Isaac, the flip top configuration was the second version. As you cited, the first version ran at Sebring, where Miles hit a tree in practice. Then the car was rebuilt and rebodied. The flip-top ran only at Nassau and was a DNF. Same Turd (CSX 2196), different version. The Ferrari-like cut outs on the nose were needed to cool the 427 that was stuffed into the 289 chassis. The Revell body could only only be the flip top. You are correct there.

Yep, it's had a long life. There is a famous photo from Nassau of it shooting down the straight. The car is now in Peter Klutt's private collection after he restored it just 2 years ago. https://www.legendar...cobra-1870.aspx

Be a master plumber, I find it ironic that they would name that car, the turd. What are the odds on that?

Thanks Bill I'll keep that in mind. I just thought it was more interesting this way. What do you think guys, Paint It Black? Or paint it red with a vertical yellow triangle above the grill and keep them guessing?

ZR-1, thank you for that post. It killed Two birds one stone. I received that Cobra body along with a Tipo 61 Maserati. The Revell paperwork was inside the Maserati body. This threw me off because, the only tipo-61 that I could find listed was by Lancer. Over the course of time, or inadvertently, it was switch from one body to the other.

This phone has no spell check. It's supposed to say red with a rectangular yellow emblem above the grill. For those of you who we're wondering what I was talking about in the previous post.

Found a photo of it Pepe's book. I don't know if it's okay to post it or not. But I was right it's red, but with some hideous White Stripes. Not the band, who Rock, but across from front to back. I think I'll go play some white stripes. Really loud.
