Well I did it. After 63 years on Long Island I went ahead and followed my Grand daughter and moved to Massachusetts. I'm in a town called Needham outside of Boston. Does anyone know of a real hobby shop near me that carries things like Tamiya paints etc. I have absolutely no knowledge of the area. I've been to Hobby Lobby here but they just have basic stuff. Not a "real" hobby shop. Thanks

Modelville Hobby in Ashland, Mass. has a lot of slotcar stuff, also a great selection of tracks.  Surprisingly, they don't have paint for lexan LOL.

Joe,

These are "hobby shops", not slot-car raceways.

Spare Time Shop - Marlboro, MA

Hobby Emporium - Tyngsboro, MA  (So close to the NH border you can practically pee into NH.  FYI - This area is a huge retail shopping district intended to draw MA customers seeking to beat MA state sales taxes.  Also, consider this trip if you want cheap NH tobacco & liquor.)

My personal preference is for Hobby Emporium.  More things that interest me, longer hours and in my view a more agreeable staff.

Good luck.

Hey Gil,

I am surprised you didn't find lexan paint at MVH.  Did you ask Richard?  He is selling his remaining stock or Parma Fascolor and new paint products from Ralph Thorne.

Be well.

Are the Fitts Photo & Hobby Shops long gone? I used to frequent the one on the lower level of the old Shoppers World when I lived & worked in Framingham.

Wow, this is great info. Thanks everyone.

This will help me get to know the area better as well.

Nate, did not know about the NH tax thing. Thanks for that. No tobacco for me but I've been known to sail with the Captain now and then :)

I want to get up to New England Dragway so I will adjust my route.

Bill, I've been to Shoppers World. That's where Hobby Lobby is. I do not think Fitts exists there anymore.

Thanks again guys.

I hadn't heard of them & don't usually travel to the Windham/Salem since I left Derry, but I'll note its there. Londonderry has a HobbyTown USA at the Apple Tree Mall on Rte. 102. It's been around over 40 yrs. & was formerly in Plaistow & Manchester before Hobby Lobby came to town.

Ftts Photos are long gone.

For that matter Shopper's World is nothing like it was when Bill was a kid.

Modelville Hobby is only about 7 miles from what is now Shopper's World.

I never was a kid in Framingham, I grew up in Maine. For nine years, I had an engineering position on Cochituate Rd., before transferring to NH. This allowed me to walk to the old Shoppers World at lunchtime, which no longer exists.. From 1969-71, I lived at 59 Tri St., Ashland which is a quick walk across Rte. 126 from where MVH is now located. :)
