In the mid 90's we had vintage slot car races at Slot Car Junction located in South San Francisco. The track was an MTT. Here are pictures from these fun events.

Quite a variety of nicely detailed cars.

Oh, no! Someone else is using troll dolls for drivers. Thought I had the rights to that. The big time, pro racers (mostly self proclaimed) would bitch that all that hair might get caught in their gears. My normal response was that if they were worried about that, they should stay in front of me. Eventually I just started using dinosaur heads as drivers in my cars, and of course, there was no end to the crying about that.

Great pics, Rodney.
So glad you took these and saved them. I see a couple of my cars, like the Sunoco Lola in post 5. I should find that body and see if it is worth saving, now that it has history.
This is the track that got me back into vintage slots. I had tried International 15 at Haggon wood in Sacramento, but it was not fun for me.
SCJ was perfect. I wonder what Voltaire and Ramon are doing now?

I visited San Francisco on my Ticonderoga cruiser (USS Valley Forge CG-50) for a few days in the 90's.
Fantastic city. Friendly people, out of this world clam chowder and sour dough bread. At lunchtime, the business ladies would go walking in their long dresses along the waterfront wearing sensible shoes. I went salmon fishing and visited a horror museum. What a city. It's cool in the summertime

Just twenty years service and scrapped...

Yup. But let's please keep Rodney's thread on track - slot cars and the city of love. I'm guilty also and I'm sorry.

Not to take away from your San Francisco memories at all Pablo, but Slot car junction was in South San Francisco. Just west of SF airport if you know the area, and have flown in.
But love the Animals, great music.

Thanks Martin. But this is Rodney's thread, I'm just a visitor. The slot photos are awesome history. Wish I had been there. Cool people, cool cars

I sometimes wish I'd been there in the sixties.
I had a friend (a couple of years older) who was there; he wishes he could remember what he did there.

That's what I love about Rodney. He was there, remembers it, and chronicles it right here on Slotblog. And has the photos to prove it

Hi Rodney,
Thanks so much for sharing the Slot Car Junction photos.
I was wondering if anyone had taken some during the time they were open.
My brother-in-law and I both lived approximately a mile and a half from SCJ and were there quite often.
What I remember the most is that their shop closing time was "suppose to be" 9 pm - but many of us were stayed there close to midnight, especially on Friday and Saturday nights!
My brother-in-law practically lived there! LOL
Thanks so much for the memories Rodney!
