It has been about a month since our last event. Holidays, summer vacations and life just got in the way. The third race of the Early Modified Series and a True Scale (hard body) Mixed race were held at Electron Raceway on 7/19/21. A full complement of nine racers showed up, all rabid, drooling and anxious to race. The race director, me, had to remind the group that biting, physical, and mental abuse would not be tolerated (just joking).
In the sections below, I have included details of the finishing order, an image of the field for each race, an image of the race winner and images of cars that have run for the first time in the Series and True Scale races. Images of all of the cars that have run in the past can be found by viewing recent race reports. Follow the link below; then select the appropriate race report.

Joe brought along Vince, a potential new racer. Vince raced slots in nearby Cottage Grove, decades ago and like many, assumed that slot car racing had disappeared in the area. He seemed quite interested and asked many questions. He plans to attend the area’s next race at STR next Monday. Perhaps the slot car virus has infected one more person on the planet. As you know, the Delta variant is quite contagious.
Prior to the race a couple of items were discussed.
- It was decided that the Early Modified Series would run for 5 rather than 4 events. This was done so that the chances of tie scores for individuals would be minimized and to maximize the fun factor.
- It was also decided that we would continue the B, A main format in Mixed True Scale races with a twist. As usual, the B main winner would have the option to run in the A Main. The twist was that the racer who finished last in the A Main would move down to the B Main in the next race (scheduled two weeks from 7/19/21)
A summary of the results is described below
- In the Early Modified race, Bob edged out Rich for the top spot while setting a new lap record for the class. Meanwhile, the rest of the field battled for the remaining spot on the podium. In the end, Joe bested Ron for the third spot on the podium.
- With two wins in three starts, Bob leads the Early Modified Series with 55 points. Rich with a single win and two second place finishes is second in the series with 50 points. A single point separates Joe and Ron for third place, while the rest of the field closely battles for fourth place
- In the Early Modified Team Competition, Danbury Race Arena maintained a slight lead over Starlight Speedway with 149 to 145 points respectively.
- Mike D. won the True Scale B Main and moved up to race in the A Main as the “Iron Man”. Unfortunately for Mike, he will move back to the B Main for the next Mixed race because he finished at the tail end of the field in the A Main.
- In the True Scale Mixed race Bob edged out Rich for the win. Meanwhile, the rest of the field battled fiercely for the third spot. In the end it was Joe edging out Ron for the bottom step of the podium
