I assumed that would be fugley but it's surprisingly not. It almost looks like a normal split window. Just stretched a little.

I think we would call it a 2+2 in today's lingo. I read about it somewhere years ago, and I think the comment at that time was that since Ford went four seat with the Thunderbird, Chevy needed to investigate the possibility of a four place Sting Ray. The Hagerty article supports that. Personally, of all the 2+2s I've seen, the Vette is the least obnoxious.
