The ORS Kings of Retro 2021-2022 season will kick off on Saturday September 18th at Mark’s Model World in Canton OH. Doors open at 8:00am and tech will start at 9:30am. Classes to be run are Retro Anglewinder, Retro Can-Am and Retro F-1. IRRA rules will be used with the exception of Retro Anglewinder which is a ORS specific class.

A change this season will be that each raceway will run one date with Retro Anglewinders and their next date with IRRA Stockcar. More details later.

It has been a LONG break due to Covid so get out your racecars and lets get this party started !!!

PSA….mask requirements will be dictated by local government guidelines at each raceway or by track owner. The ORS BoD encourages racers to be safe regardless and wear your mask.

I forgot: what motor is speced for anglewinder?

Also, I assume that Can-Am and F1 will be using the CR stage 2 motor.

ProSlot 4002FK sealed. And yes the CL motor is legal as are all the recently approved bodies. Strictly IRRA except for Retro Anglewinder.

Yes. We actually posted that last year. Here is a copy/paste:

September 18,2021
October 16, 2021
November 13, 2021
January 15, 2022
February 19, 2022
March 19-21 2022 (R4?)
April 9, 2022

What we haven’t done is nail down the raceways. Tom Thumb will host Oct and hopefully HMS will host Nov. so many things depend on this virus issue. Two of the BoD members have been buried in other junk that have pushed this into the “very late” column. APOLOGIES.

I have 50 CR-102 motors on the shelf here if anyone needs some. I won’t need any for a while yet.

Dennis, thanks for making the offer.

With racers talking about 4000+ laps on motors, 50 is enough to race into about 2030.

Motors should be in next week. They were delayed about 7-10 days because my vendor discovered they had the arm shaft shifted over too far, towards the endbell.

I'm glad they are on the ball, and discovered it ahead of time.

I have been real impressed with their attention to detail and ability to detect any minor issues I've had, that I brought up to them.

Hopefully this attention to detail is why the motors have been performing so well and there has been a huge demand for them.

Apologies to those raceways, who haven't been able to get them from their distributors for the last week(from Eagle) , to 2 1/2 weeks(from ERI).

Along with the order where the armatures had to be remade, there is a an additional order that has been in process for a month.

I've been trying real hard to keep up with the demand, but as with much, much bigger industries, such as automobiles, it's been harder since the onslaught of COVID .

If you have that many CR 102 motors, you need to Fast Eddie's is FL ASAP, they are hosting the southern retro rumble and have NO CR-102 motors for racers. TIA

Latest status of the CR102.

20210902_211343.jpg

Why the motor was delayed to begin with.

My vendor discovered the shaft was spaced slightly off on all the arms and rather than ship me the motors, they informed me of the problem and said they would remake them.

The CR102's were slated to be delivered Sept 9th, but I did some driving around the city and found the depot where some that were separated from the shipment, and managed to make it in early, were sitting.

I confirmed that they metered the same as the previous 3 batches, tested them, packed as many as possible, and shipped UPS, to both Eagle and ERI.

I also got some dropshipped to Dan W. at Speedy Fast-Lane, that he should also have on Thursday, in plenty of time for his NERR race this Saturday.

In that limited testing, so far, I thought for non-balanced motors, they felt exceptionally good, and didn't find any super-shakers, to pull out, like I've done with a small quantity from the previous batches, to sell to my local drag guys, for small $$$'s.

I should be able to get to the rest of Eagle and ERI's CR102 B/O's, on Wednesday, for Friday delivery.

New batch is distinctively laser engraved.(CR102 is now added) as each of the previous 3 batches were.

Greg,
Have Mark contact me if he wants me to dropship him some on Wednesday.

As I did with the ones I sent to Dan at Speedy Fast-Lane, I'll ship UPS and pick up the cost.

I would actually prefer the shafts be 2 mm shorter, that's how much I have to cut off anyway.

Yes, I was tempted to accept them.

While the shaft looks short in the pic, one must remember the BB housing sticks out further than ones on bushing motors.

IMO, it would of been long enough for Retro use, especially with chassis with my motor bracket.

But this motor was designed for, and is also used for drag racing, and with more and more racers using 48P, and the small for drag racing, Koford 27 and 28T crowns, it wouldn't of worked.

Biggest issue was the shaft would of stuck out 2MM further forward, most likely leading to racers then wanting to trim that off.

I just didn't want to open that floodgate on guys getting to trim the shaft on those, and then "Why can't I on all the motors?"

And FWIW, my vendor never asked me if I would accept motors with the shifted shaft arms.

When they informed me of the mistake, they also said they were in the process of remaking the arms.

Some suggestions from the peanut gallery.

hope you reconsider not making retroanglewinder the permanent class.

they are fun. Stock cars are slow and boring.

and switch them to either no seal os4002fk or cr102 also

thanks for the consideration

It was a small turnout yesterday and I appreciate all the support for the race.

There were:

6 retro anglewinders.

7 Can Am

5 F1

I want to thank the racers, volunteer turn marshals and Mark Kitto for hosting the race.

To save myself some time, I made the data and points one pdf file.

I'll continue to update to columns in the points as the season progresses.

Attached File  MMW Race 1 ORS Points and Data 2021-2022.pdf   96.38KB   43 downloads

The next race is planned for October 16, at Tom Thumb Hobbies.
