True Scale Rules
Revised 5/26/23
Rules applied to all True Scale Classes
Only production H-Bracket chassis are allowed. The following modifications may be made to any of legal H-Bracket chassis.
- The front axle hanging systems of these chassis are typically weak and subject to bending. Fabrication of a custom front axle hanging system is allowed.
- The H bracket may be stiffened by using piano wire or other material. The stiffening material may be soldered or attached using an adhesive substance such as JB weld.
- Side and front pans may be added
- Axle hanger holes may be reamed to fit the American bushings/bearings.
- Bearings/bushings may be secured with super glue, other adhesives or soldered
- Bolt holes may be reamed accept American bolts
- Cooling hole may be cut under the motor
- The 4 small “bump ins” in the center section of the chassis may be removed by filing away the material between them just enough to allow for the inner part of the side pan to sit flush on the center section.
- No other chassis modifications are allowed unless shown for a specific chassis in the section below.
- Tires must be black and centered in the wheel openings
- Full interior tray with painted 3D driver figure is required
- Two numeric decals are required. Three are preferred
- Wheel inserts are optional but encouraged
- Any major body piece such as a wing, if lost due to a mishap, must be reattached prior to the next heat
- All motors must be sealed (no motor modifications are allowed). On 16D type motors, gold dust or equivalent brushes are allowed
- The guide flag must not be visible as viewed from the top (exception Cobra/Corvette Challenge class)
- Front tire width must be .4”. They may not be tapered but may be painted or hardened with super glue or nail polish to reduce rolling resistance. Front tires may not extend outside of the bodywork (although inserts may extend outside the bodywork)
- Track Clearance – Front .047”, Rear .055”

Rear track Can Am/Gran Sport may extend beyond bodywork and if so is limited to 3.17 inches
Cobra/Corvette Challenge
Background:
The Cobra/Corvette challenge (CCC) class will be based upon the KISS principle. The place to start is with the 289/427, 1/24th scale Cobra. This model has the same wheelbase as the True Scale Can Am cars. The Cobra is quite narrow but can be “stretched” to fit an unaltered True Scale Can Am Chassis. This class is meant to re-create early Cobra/Corvette racing, therefore cars will be limited to 1953-1967 model years. In order to promote “competitive diversity”, bodies with approximately the same wheelbase will be selected and “stretching and/or wheel flares will be allowed (but not required) to facilitate tracks that are equal. Again, to promote simplicity, the same chassis may be used on Can-Am, Gran Sport and Cobra/Corvette challenge cars.
Bodies:
Only plastic bodies are allowed (no resin cars). Cobras may be 1/24th scale. Corvettes may be1/24th or 1/25th scale models with the exception of the 53 Corvette for which only the 1/25th scale version is allowed. Only replicas of cars for model years 1953-1967 will be allowed.
- Bodies may be raised to facilitate wheel clearance
- Wheel openings may be enlarged to facilitate wheel clearance
Tires:
- Front tires are to be a minimum of .85 inches in diameter
- Rear tires to be a minimum of .925 inches in diameter
Motor:
Only Deathstar and Proslot PS-2002 SpeedFX 16D balanced motor (sealed) are allowed
Track:
- Front tires may extend beyond bodywork as viewed from above but track is limited to 2.90 inches
- Rear track may extend beyond bodywork and if so is limited to 3.17 inches
Miscellaneous:
- Guide flag may extend beyond the front bumper as much as a quarter inch as viewed from the top.
- Cobra windshield and windscreen are flimsy and may be replaced by a custom windscreen made from any transparent material. Some Corvette convertible windscreens are flimsy and hard to mount and may be replaced by a custom windscreen made from any transparent material.
Sports Car
This class includes contemporary limited production and production based closed sports cars (no convertibles or sypders are allowed). The class specifically excludes all cars included in the GT1 class (see above for GT1 list of legal cars).
Bodies:
- Front wheel wells may not be trimmed for tire clearance
- Rear wheel wells may be trimmed for tire clearance (This will allow many more sports cars to fit into the class without mounting the rear wheels inboard of the rear fender wells)
- Bodies may not be cut down but may be raised to accommodate tire clearance
- Front and rear glass must be used
- Maximum body width at the front and rear openings may not exceed 3.25 inches
Approved bodies are as follows
- Ferrari Modena
- Ferrari Testarossa
- Ferrari F50
- Ferrari F40
- Ferrari 458
- Ferrari 430
- Audi R8
- Jaguar XJ220 (1/25 scale only)
- Ford GT (not the Ford GT40)
- Porsche 918
Bodies not on the approved list will be considered, however, please contact the track owner prior to the build. In the interest of competitive diversity, long wheelbase cars such as the Ferrari 599 are excluded from the class. The intent is to be able to use a Tran-Am chassis for cars in the Sports Car class.
Tires and Tracking:
- Front wheel diameter shall be at least 15/16 inch
- Rear wheel diameter shall be at least 1.0 inches
- Rear or front tires may not extend outside of the bodywork (wheel inserts excluded)
Motor:
- Only Deathstar and Proslot PS-2002 SpeedFX 16D balanced motor (sealed) are allowed
True Scale NASCAR
Only 1/25 scale NASCAR bodies will be allowed, otherwise, rules for True Scale NASCAR will be the same as for True Scale Sports Car with the following exceptions:
- Rear wheel minimum diameter will be set at .95 inches
- Rear wheel wells may be cut for clearance.
- Rear wheels may extend beyond the body work
- Rear Track - 3.25 inches max
True Scale 60s GT Cars
This class currently includes 1/20 scale Cobra Daytona resin cars. I will likely be expanded to include 1/20 scale Cheetah, Ferrari 250 GTO and perhaps Corvette Gran Sport.
Class rules will be the same as for True Scale Sports cars with the following exceptions
- Rear and front Track – 3.15 inches max
- Rear wheel diameter - .95 inched min.
True Scale Slammers
The rules for this class utilize the KISS principle (Keep it simple stupid). A body swap and a front track adjustment are needed to compete in this class
- Chassis/Motor combinations are exactly the same as our Sports Car, Trans-Am, and NASCAR classes
- Front and rear track specifications are the same as our NASCAR class (3.17 inches front and 3.25 inches rear) but both may extend beyond the bodywork
- Bodies shall be 1/25 scale NASCAR kits representing cars from 1980-2007and cut to represent extreme modified cars
- Body can be trimmed by removing material from the bottom sides (rocker panel area) to a minimum overall height of 1.750 inches at the roof’s highest point. The measurement for tech inspection will be taken with the body mounted on the chassis, and measured from bottom of chassis to roof’s highest point. More material may be removed from the front portion of the body than the rear, to achieve a slight rake when the body is positioned onto the chassis
- Tops may not be chopped and roof pillars must remain intact
- The front fascia of the body must remain intact (headlight area and grill opening), however the front air dam may be removed. The front leading edge of the air dam must be at least 1/16 of an inch tall.
- A front push bar may be added which may require a clearance cut in the front air dam.
- Rear wheel openings may be enlarged for tire clearance.
- Front wheel opens may be cut out of fender completely to allow tires to extend above fenders and hood area. Cuts may be made into hood sides to allow for tire clearance.
- Mesh screen will be used to replace the front clear plastic window, and the clear plastic rear window will be eliminated
- The rear of the body may be cut off to shorten the overall length of the body and a replacement rear panel must be added when the rear of the body is cut off. The panel may include the rear spoiler.
- Rear spoiler height must not exceed .400” (measured from the top center portion of the rear deck lid). Rear spoiler may be no wider than the body
- Body must display numbers on each side and the roof. (Numbers shall be at least .5 inches tall
- Interior with 3D driver shall be installed
Clubman Rules
