My favorite race cars are Porsche 935s. I saw them run in IMSA races at Sears Point and Laguna Seca. I have made many different Porsche 935 slot cars over the years. This green slot car caught my eye. It is from Germany.

I did not know what the fiberglass slot car body was patterned after until an article on the real race car appeared in the October 2020 issue of Excellence magazine. The article is called "Lord of the 'Ring." The one-to-one scale car is a DP 935 lll, and was built in 1997 on a 964 generation RSR. The car featured in the magazine is the sister car to the car that won the 1998 Nurburgring Endurance Series. The featured car has also been raced for 20-plus years. The engine is a normally-aspirated 964 RSR engine. The DP bodywork supplies lots of downforce, and is well suited to the 'Ring.

The slot car was rebuilt and engine and exhaust detail (from the parts junk box) were added. More correct-looking wheels and tires were also added. The anemic motor was replaced with a Falcon motor. The Plafit chassis works great.

Rodney,

The slot car looks fantastic!

May I inquire as to what the car weighs please?

Thanks for sharing Rodney!

Thanks Ernie.  With weight added, the car weighs 7 ounces.  The car has at least 1/2 ounce of lead added to the rear, under the axle.  Weight added here lets the car rotate and turn in faster.
