Fellas,

The C.A.R.S. Vintage Slot Car Club meets next Thursday, November 4, at 7:30 at THE RACE PLACE in Farmingdale NJ.

Due to the meeting's close proximity to Halloween, November's theme will go with the theme of "SPOOKY SLOT CARS".

Much like our "Thingies that go Bump in the Night" themes of the past, we'll focus on these unique creations from the heyday of scary, strange and oddly named slot cars... See Mike Poniatowski's outstanding "Ultimate Cuccaracha" as I like to call it below !!!

As a subtheme how about slot car publications, books, magazines, instruction sheets and maybe some slot car boxes ???

Also, I hope to have a progress report on the project I mentioned in October's post, that being an ORANGE slot car and the THINGIE project as well...

The track pictured on the magazine cover was Bob Klidinst's home track.    Bob was an Indy native and 500 lover.   He is responsible for many scale drawings of Indy cars, particularly the late 50's and 60's.     I think he designed the Strombecker Dirt Track Racer, the  1/32 Watson Roadster.    Pretty sure he was involved in other  toy car designs and prototypes.    Worth researching Bob and his contribution to the toy car hobby.

Matt,

Thanks for the I.D. of the track, I've been enthralled by that photo since I first saw the cover all those years ago. In fact Bob's name is listed on the pit wall between the red and white cars. One question, would those cars be 1/32 or 1/24 scale ?

I wonder how many photos of this track we can post on this page ?

I've read about Bob before, he also built many Indy model cars that were fantastically detailed and have been shown in many magazines of the day.

Fellas,

Some photos from the November meeting of the C.A.R.S. Vintage Slot car Club...Rodney's Count Cougar with what is now certainly a vintage PARMA Flexi-1 chassis with 16D for power.

Part of Steve's Monogram slot car collection was out for some hot laps on the big track Thursday evening. Take a close look at the '55 Chevy in the center, ever see on like it before ?

Mikey checking out a "vintage" Slotcar Bulletin Magzaine along with some of the older slot car publications...

Mikey's newest acquisition, an HO Anglia drag car that's a real beauty.

Steve's molded in ORANGE Monogram "Bad Man" style '55 Chevy Gasser...I've never seen one before, anyone else ?

The orange modified Cox Cuc is mine. I had a cut up body and wanted to add some aerodynamics to it . Car ran really well and stuck to track.  I keep it in my box of cars I would run at the track to show people what vinatge racing was all about. I used cars that did something , The stinger with its wing, The Chap 2E with its wing , Little red Wagon For its wheelies.

Don, that's a nice representation of early 60's cars like you would see at a big local track.

Pete, Bob was mostly 1/32 scale.  Probably most of the Indy cars are Strombecker based.  That was one of his designs.     There is a full feature on his track in one issue of MC&T.    Probably it was the last page or so, where they showed tracks.    If I remember that article his track was only  about 4 X 8, maybe 4 X 10.   It was a simple oval track.   In the last year or two some his home built cars have sold on Ebay.   I remember a few of them as being pretty crude.

Never seen an orange 55 like Steve has.    It is interesting that the Monogram 34 Ford he has is one his father put together  back in the early 60's.   Steve also told me about the hard to find  Monogram 40 pickup model kits that  used the mold for the slot car body.    I found one and built a turquoise 40 pickup that is completely factory molded and has no added chassis mounts.
