Eight Slot-heads showed up to race Cobra Daytona and Early Modified. Track conditions were good and several racers notched personal bests.
In the Cobra Daytona race, Bob ran a personal best of 89.8 laps to take the top spot. Rich was second and Ron third. The Daytonas have proved their durability. These are resin cast and strengthened with carbon fiber mesh. Although there were some serious wrecks all held up well.
In the Early Modified race, Bob ran a personal best of 90.0 laps for the win. Rich finished second, only a couple of sections behind while Ron cruised to a third place finish. Mike, Mark and Ken are improving. All turned personal bests.
Scott showed up with a new 36 Ford in the Early Modified race. The car looks great; however Scott did not take advantage of the rules which allow for cutting down the body and adding a sun roof. Some modifications and Scott could challenge for a much higher finish
The race for the top spot on the podium was between Bob and Rich. In the initial heat, Bob took the early lead as Rich made a few unforced errors. Rich roared back in heat #2 to finish a few feet behind Bob. Rich had a sub-par heat #3 while Bob ran well opening a full lap gap. Bob extended his lead in the final heat to finish first with 89.8 laps (a personal best). Rich was second, a bit over a lap behind. Rons Cobra Daytona cruised to a third place finish with 85.9 laps. This car is quick, turning a fast lap of 5.140 seconds. With a bit better consistency, Ron is capable of challenging the top two.
Meanwhile the mid-field battle was brewing. Marks fourth place finish was a personal best both in terms of laps completed and fast lap time. NAPA Joes car was quick (fast lap of 5.175 seconds) and finished fifth but a lack of consistency kept him from challenging Mark or Ron.
Scott and Mike both turned personal bests in terms of fast lap times, however, consistency issues kept them from challenging the rest of the mid-field.
Bob, Rich and Ron battled for the podium spots. Bob ran a fine race and led the pack wire to wire to finish first with a personal best of 90.0 laps and a fast lap of 5.023 seconds. Rich did make a valiant effort to catch Bob in the final heat but fell short by a half of a lap. Again, Ron cruised to a third place finish with a personal best of 86.8 laps and a 5.142 second fast lap.
Joe, Mike and Mark battled it out for supremacy in the mid-field. Joe managed to edge out Mike for fourth place but only by a half lap. Mikes lap total of 83.8 was a personal best for fifth and Marks lap total of 81.4 was also a personal best for sixth. Ken upped his game with a personal best lap total and might have broken 80 had it not been for a mishap in the keyhole corner caused by Rich.
