Yesterday was the first day of racing at the 2021 Fall Brawl XII at SpeedZone Raceway in Mt. Holly, NJ.

Your reporter always likes to meet new people at the Brawl, but this year I was unfortunate enough to meet a new disease that peaked on Thursday - gout in my right foot. In the middle of the night, I woke up believing my roommate Jay Guard had doused my right foot with lighter fluid and lit it off. So I didn't make it to the raceway yesterday, but  drinking about a gallon of water along with half a dozen or so Advils eased the attack and I'm here at the track playing catch-up on posting the results of the racing that occurred yesterday during my absence.

The first class contested at this year's Brawl was Retro Coupe on the Worlds Flat track in SpeedZone's back room where the King used to reside. A total of nine racers entered the class, split into two heats, a four-man B Main and a five-man A Main. Qualifying was by laps and sections during a one-minute run.

Qualifying results:

1) Jimmy Williams - 10 laps, 10 sections

2) Duran Trujillo - 9.7

3) Tom Adams - 9.65

4) Adam Chaya - 9.51

5) John Weaver - 9.42

6) Matt Bruce - 9.28

7) Dale Yamashita - 9.15

8) Rick Dodge - 9.14

9) Mike Iles - 9.08

B Main results:

1) Matt Bruce - 229.35 laps, best time of 5.851 secs in green

2) Dale Yamashita - 227.64, 5.945 in green

3) Mike Iles - 110, 6.022 in blue

4) Rick Dodge - 26, 6.459 in black

A Main results:

1) Jimmy Williams - 235.65 laps, best time of 5.683 secs in green

2) Tom Adams - 234.79, 5.780 in orange

3) Duran Trujillo - 233.59, 5.758 in green

4) Adam Chaya - 227.62, 5.962 in orange

5) John Weaver - 182, 5.974 in green

Retro Coupe flat track combined results:

1) Jimmy Williams - 235.65 laps

2) Tom Adams - 234.79

3) Duran Trujillo - 233.59

4) Matt Bruce - 229.35

5) Dale Yamashita - 227.64

Wanted to make a comment regarding qualifying in GT Coupe Pro shown above.

Time spread over the first eight qualifiers – 0.102 secs.

Time spread over the first sixteen qualifiers – 0.234 secs.

If you don't think the level of competition in IRRA Retro is insanely high, you might want to reconsider that opinion.

As a Floridian, it's nice to know that the guys that beat up on me locally are doing the same thing to everyone up there so far.

Congrats to Biscuit and Jeff, and I wouldn't be shocked in the least to see DZ grab a win in F1 or Can-Am.

In the craziness of herding 44 racers into seven Mains, the live stream was started a bit late. It is running now.

Interesting that you can watch the stream from when it was switched on up to the present time, at which point it goes live.

Pretty cool!

Can someone explain the Statistic Results for the Overall Best Retro F1. Where did Gary Clinton get those extra laps from on purple lane that put him ahead of Duran?

I'm talking about this PAGE.

Is it still to be finalized?

Just wondering.

Eddie,

The LapMaster software has bugs when move-ups are used. These have been present for a long time and I have been feeding Carsten some screenshots over the last few days to make him aware of the issues. You'll note that after the first Main, the Main results screens only show six racers and don't include the racers who moved up. The Overall Best chart you mention also has blank lines for all the racers who advanced/moved-up.

In fact, when a move-up scheme is in use, overall best doesn't really apply, as final rankings are not made based on lap totals. Each Main is a standalone race and lap comparisons between Mains are not relevant.

Just ignore that Overall Best chart, Eddie. I won't be posting it either as a screenshot or by retyping it.

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

That's a pretty big glitch, indeed. I wondered why I couldn't see Gary's or Duran's lap totals after each heat in the A Main. Based on the final lap totals, Duran ran into some trouble, for sure.

Thanks for the explanation.

Eddie,

I learned today from Andy Wasserman, who is here, is that visually no one in Europe uses move-ups in slot racing.

Move-ups give some racers more racing (sometimes much more racing, if you keep moving up from lower heats), but as in this case with Duran, his B Main total would have gotten him a third overall, but it doesn't count beyond that B Main, right?

Will there be move-ups in Can-Am?

I think so, Eddie, but am not 100% certain.

Yes, Can-Am is Tier 1 class so there are move-ups.

It's the last day of the 2021 Fall Brawl XII and the Can-Am class is on the agenda. Forty-seven racers have made it through tech.
