Talk about good racing! The Doghouse Gang purchased a slew of the JK Indy chassis and bodies recently to create a new class for our regular racing series. If you have not driven one yet, you really need to consider making a buy soon. These cars remind me of the Cheetahs. They handle great and are solidly built. (No, I receive no kickbacks from Tim as a result of my personal opinion.  :D )

I believe everyone else bought the RTR version with the realistically painted bodies. I, on the other hand, took the DIY method and built my own – for better or worse. My paint job is definitely inferior to the rest. Anyway...

The cars looked great:

We had a great group of racers for the day -- a total of eight, which gave us plenty of turn marshals. We have a few "new" guys running with us now -- Dr. Bob, Allen, and Bob A's grandson, Conner. They all fit in with us well, and the larger group gives us more targets for occasional ribbing.

Back row: Bob Arneson, Dan "Rocky the Flying Squirrel" Parker, David Erickson, Allen Evans, "Fast" Richard Sylvester

Front row: Jim "SlowBeas" Beasley, Dr. Bob Feller, "New Kid" Conner Bryant

Since the track had recently been cleaned by the group, racing was a little tricky at first, and the first-race speeds were not as fast as we attained later in the day. But overall, there was some great racing, and we still accumulated some good lap totals overall. Unless I'm mistaken, I believe Dan had the hot lap of the first race but, as Cheater is known to say, "It is not he who has the fastest lap that wins..."

My Indy handled really well and was so forgiving of my carelessness. The car came to life in the second race and gave me (what I believe to be) my highest-ever lap total for a single race.

Due to the higher-than-usual number of racers on this day, I had to bail out early for another gathering and left the racing fun to the other guys. As a result, Bob A really came to life! He changed to his normal controller, I believe, which made a phenomenal difference:

It's exciting to see him do so well in the third race. Congrats to Bob Arneson for a fantastic third race.

At the end of it all, we typically pull the top two results for each racer:

Again, a great day of racing. Congratulations to all the guys. There's no other group I'd rather join for regular races. Can't wait until our next Saturday gathering, which we're currently planning a two-hour "enduro" race on Saturday, December 11. I think we've landed on using our Parma Flexi-2s for that race, which is always a fun throwback to past racing. Expect those results afterward.

Until then, support slot car manufacturers and your local track, and we offer special thanks to Tim and JK Products for another great day of racing.

Thanks for the nice report on the cars Jim, been thinking about adding these cars also for some home racing.

I have had a lot of fun with these cars in the past- be careful... once you start racing them it's easy to start a "collection".

Just curious, do you use the JK "Spec" Indy Car rules or do you have your own house rules? Thanks for any information.

If you keep this absolutely "box stock" they are GREAT for consistent series racing!!  Cheap fun for newbies and experienced racers!

Great pick for a new class.. Probably my favorite class to race at this point. Keeping them "box stock" is the what makes the racing fun.

Most of us took them out of the box and put them on the track.  Seems pretty 'spec' to me!  And, yes, they were fun.

JK Products published a set of rules for their Indy (Wide) Spec Class. It is probably posted somewhere on Slotblog.

In my area there are house rules that were implemented for only the raceway owners know why reasons. The House rules are LARGELY based on the JK Spec Rules but not exactly so.

Like David said above: I would assume that, since all the cars are straight out of the box --- except for mine, which was built by me to match all the others --- we must be meeting the JK (wide) Indy car spec rules.

These things are a blast. In fact, we're considering a second race with them very soon. We're going to blow our rotation of retro Can-Am and F1, Flexi-2, IROC, Flexi open class and all others in favor of running them again. We can write a new schedule! I regret that I only had time to run the first two races and had to miss the third. But it's so cool to watch Bob take the checkered flag. Since he's my partner for the upcoming enduro, I'm expecting great things from him.

Honestly, these Indy cars handle as well as, or better than, the Cheetah chassis that hit the market and blew everyone away for so long. Tons of fun, handle great, and I think everyone had a really good time. Looking forward to the next time we race these.

Like David said above: I would assume that, since all the cars are straight out of the box --- except for mine, which was built by me to match all the others --- we must be meeting the JK (wide) Indy car spec rules.

The JK Spec series rules allow such things as a choice of JK rear tire compound as long as JK wheels and rubber are used. Weight may be added for tuning and other changes are allowed as long as JK replacement parts are used.  A comprehensive listing of what replacement parts are legal is included in the rules thanks to Tim's very generous participation in the process. There is also a comprehensive list of what may NOT be changed to be legal to race. Examples of items not to be changed are motors, gears (ratio and type), tire diameters and widths to name but a few.

It does sound like your "out of the box" cars would pass tech at a JK Spec series race but I suggest adopting their rules for the sake of consistency and if guests owning cars that conform to the spec series rules participate in your races some day, the playing field would stay level.

The JK Spec series rule set has proven to be popular and practical during the running of a series for JK Spec racers in cooperation with 4 local (to me) raceways. The initial JK Spec series concluded at the end of summer 2021. Thank you to Tim and JK products for their generous support and the donation of merchandise prizes for every participant.

Mike, it sounds as if you had a great series. Wish we could have been part of it!
