What needle and nozzle size is best for lacquer paints shot through a Paasche model H airbrush? I have size 1, 3, and 5 to choose from. I will be spraying Lexan bodies with various lacquer paints. I have a steady supply of air, supplied by a large commpressor, at any pressure needed.

Thanks in advance...

I've used the #5 to spray, that being the one with the widest spray pattern.

Since you have the #3 and the #5, try them both on some cardboard and see what you like.

I do have to question using the lacquer paint though. I don't know if it will be flexible enough for slot car use... and I hate paint chips on the track.

For one-color paint jobs, use the 5. For more detailed work, use a smaller one.

Acrylic lacquers were the standard slot car paint for decades. As long as the paint has sufficient flexing agent and you use the right thinner, no problem.

As for the Paasche airbrushes, I can't help you there, Dan. I did my production work with a two airbrush setup, a Badger dual action for fine detailing, and a Binks medium for wide area coverage (with an assortment of acrylic lacquer paints).

FWIW, I use a Binks Wren airbrush with the "A" nozzle, which is designed for spraying inks and stains. I've used just about every type of paint through it, including undiluted Faskolor, with very good results. But I don't go into too much detail work, either. YMMV.

I got Binks in 1970 with a "B" (medium) nozzle. It was used until about 2005 when I got a double action brush and switched to acrylic paints. It still works, but I have it stored in the eaves of my house.

My first products were pre-mount bodies when I started Front Line Products. I never used paints only lacquer toners as they were great for fades, fogs, candy colors and custom colors. Not sure if they are still sold in some states but in So. Cal. they stopped selling them. Now that I want to get back into painting some bodies I need to find out where I can get (if I can) toners here in Northern Nevada.

Toners have less solids in them than paint. They are semi-transparent so you can get some great paint jobs.

I used a Binks for large area coverage and Paasche for fine line work.
