Bob hope was an interesting individual. I met him briefly in 1972 when he was filming a Fourth of July special in Green Bay, WI. Part of the program was to be filmed at the National Railroad Museum where I was working at the time.

The gist of the scene was to show Hope running the steam locomotive. I had been assigned to be fireman for the day, being it was a pretty hot day and no one wanted to be up in that hot cab on a hot day. But I had to relinquish that job while the filming was being done due to lack of space in the cab. So engineer Fred Steffen had to handle the fire as well as running the train. That included dealing with Hope and his antics and working around the film crew. By the end of filming at almost 6 PM, he was totally witless.

Interesting what you can find on the internet. Here are some snippets from an article that appeared in a local Egg Harbor, WI, publication.
