Hi guys - I want to make my own 3/32axel spacers instead of useing a bunch of smaller one on my retro chassis .my question is what size tubing should I use and what wall thickness .and I have never used motor screws ! What size screws go into the chicagoland cr102 motors. Thanks newbie to retro racing

1/8 OD x 3/32 ID tube

For motor screws I tap the hole for  2-56 . The screws from McMaster Carr use the same allen wrench as the 4-40 set screws in my wheels.

The CR0102 and the Hawk Retro motors are already taped for M2 size screws. 4MM long. I have not had a motor come loose yet when using the M2 screws.

Do not tap the hole. JK has the screws in a 25 pack cheep and Mike Swiss sells screws as well.

1/8 OD K&S aluminum tubing makes great spacers.

The metric screws do work best.  I use aluminum tubing for my axle spacers. You can easily cut it rolling it under a sharp exacto blade!!

Here's the reason racers are willing to pay a premium for my CR018 metric screws.

The socket is deep, and "crisp", for the length of the socket.

That allows one to use a ball end wrench and tighten the motor real secure, with the rear axle and crown gear, in place.

Top pic shows the ball end wrench, at an angle much bigger than you'll use to tighten the screw, with the axle still in the car.

Bottom pic gives one an idea how deep the socket is, as it almost totally obscures the ball end.

PS-I sell .060",.100",.0170",.235 & .400" long brass tubes, that are for 3/32" axles.

Despite being a tiny bit heavier, I prefer brass over aluminum, as the harder material will hold the side play adjustment on your axle, longer.

My recommendation is, do yourself a big favor and use Chicagoland spacers and screws. Mike sells a variety of precise pre-cut 3/32 spacers and the correct screws for retro motors. As a newbie, your time is better spent on learning the fundamentals, not fighting with re-inventing the wheel  :)

i found some 2mm x 4mm button head screws from mcmaster - they take a .050" hex wrench. you can find them here: https://www.ebay.com...kPrKr5t53CooMSQt2orsSRAQR8FABHjfpFoyRlXhWmSldpVDhLrbIJV%252Fn3d4OR73dM%252Bv8zht7QDBej6vFShPPUk3HyVaHdsie4TMJIda4HIbs8eN6zm%252BEWIciTW0tj4UOhmsIkY2kgqp3kRc7daKWlRzMmag5AhEGygTvPGUABuCjzDyawjSgbGJhphwSA9ChkQzPg4%252BxdG0kSn0eLPhNdPj83w8yFtYw2a6u34wAE%252BuSIDkh3F7N48AlYb1EQ7x2h9hv1uonpbNi%252F%252FjZ3Knq4OBHSgHNVxOT99oVWi6acqvGcjTmJlUNLb5t5Yb85hzqWox%252BY3Gw6gIkPMjsJG%252BgeyM9UeID7jn0QEsqn8nRvaR0R7mVW0cGK59fvsHAhMBzjAE5HLOoDV5bpXwg6NQ3gXYIvSL4ndt4mDnigXHk2e%252B7fUoywgi9xb04nCgkkXcKUHRJrBkZ80lwgpzHSKNdUI5ABXKoY9vSgU5HN6H%252Fvj1zA6gBWDK8POFjGqTmm2HSJVSVeJ8lXId4tXbYR0S6gsQPGPG3cGgiMe89jmXLvkPA%252Bjg0QRNDxR4q5yVsJNcFtKqLeIp40o0JuJXo4slCDXgMLdExLETlOiqsweimUVnF7JVAfgD7rWW0oBTIjyV4bEYMKBllL7uiOaWLtNfiIsqFWXs45gUn70m3nrksLD60e89x0ktLo9h4gLacsg6kmlaHF0eie%252FOCq%252BpCxPhUdiLIB5aKaUionTdOwj%252Fy1k16M172%252FbtBnDgQeEFfTUEhmOKPdzVRPFPvynPjV20LI5yXakHHjaVgdmvzTu%252FRQZhCxUU%252Fp4N%252BrS2QKSaUstejAOsXNtyhMWO%252BldAQ3pruru%252B67jY2issjaWuJH6WeNg%253D%253D%7Cclp%3A2334524%7Ctkp%3ABFBMss_ph7hf
