STR was invaded by four “Huns” from the North (Cottage Grove) and a Visigoth from the South (Grants Pass). The Invaders were opposed by the nine “Indigenous” people of Roseburg in an epic battle of Super Stock and Early Modified machines. The crowd of racers was one of the largest to be hosted at STR in recent history
Early Modified
This class of cars features iron from 1928-1948. Chassis for this class are the tried and true “Econo”. The chassis is a simple brass and wire affair. Side pans “rattle” back and forth but there are no hinges. Power is provided by Deathstar or ProSlot 16D motors. Handling is quite good because of the light bodies and low center of gravity. Open wheel racing requires the driver to exhibit some caution in passing others. Wheels touching can result in some spectacular wrecks.
Since this is a relatively new class of cars, the “Huns” from the North (Mark Henderson, Dustin Henderson, Greg H. and Jaymie H.) have been hard at work cutting, fitting, painting and detailing model new bodies. These racers all have the Econo chassis so the only additions to the chassis are the front and rear push bars. All of these cars are “Works in Progress” (missing motors and other details) but they were all able to make the grid and fight the good fight.
This week’s contest was dominated by “Indigenous” people running Ford products. Bob “Hannibal the Cannibal” Hanna finished first with 85.7 laps. NAPA Joe, Rapid Rich and Ron battled it out for the bottom step of the podium. In the end, Joe was second with 83.2 laps. Rich was about a half lap behind Joe finishing third. Ron finished fourth about a half lap behind Rich.
An “A” for effort was awarded to all of the “Huns” who are all still sorting out their rides. Next time these challengers will be more of a threat.
I have posted images of only the podium finishers and new rides in this thread. Detailed images of all Early Modified rides can be found by following the link

When handicaps were applied, Mike DeDob (“Little Pixie”) was first, followed by Lowell, Ron and Mark. I believe that this was Mike’s first win and Lowell’s first second place. Below are the detailed results.
Super Stock
Again, the “Indigenous” people were able to repulse the invading barbarians. NAPA Joe cruised to a win with 88.5 laps. Bob “Hannibal the Cannibal” Hanna finished second about two laps down and Rich was third about a lap and a half behind Bob. Again, Ron challenged Rich for the bottom step of the podium but fell short by about a half of a lap. Kudos to Jaymie who finished with a personal best!!
When handicaps were applied, Ken, Lowell and Mike (Little Pixie) blew away the competition finishing first through third respectively. See below for detailed results.
