Stock Cars on the Figure 8 – 2/1/22

 

The Stock Car class was back on the Figure 8 for the second time in a month in the MVH Tuesday night retro series this week. Eight cars were presented to tech with the race run in the 4/4 format.

 

Stock Cars in Tech: 

 

Even though they were never on the track at the same time, Bob “Woody” Hazelwood and Dave Panich took the early lead while Ernie Lachance was in hot pursuit. By the midpoint of the race, Dave had posted 198 laps, giving him a slim two-lap lead over Woody. Ernie was running in 3^rd place, another eight laps back. Meanwhile, Rolly Lapierre Jr, with 182 laps, was running in 4^th, just one lap ahead of Paul Ryer who was two laps in front of Richard Payne in sixth place. Bobby Blanchette trailed by another 4 laps while George Samuels closed out the field.

 

The change to the inside lanes was not good to Rolly, as the handling of his car deteriorated after several hard hits, and he dropped out of podium contention. On the other hand, Paul managed to catch the rhythm of the Figure 8 and added twelve laps to his first half total, though "The Ernstigator" also had a good second half, securing the bottom podium position by a five-lap margin. Woody also saw his race go south on the inside lanes, though he did hang on to second place, while Dave cruised to the win.

 

Fast-lap honors were shared by all three racers on the podium with identical times of 3.398 seconds. The next fastest driver was Rolly, though his time was set in the first half of the race before handling issues slowed him down.
