We spend so much effort and time on making our slot car fast and looking nice. What is everybody doing with appearance of their pit boxes? Just stain, polyurethane or do we go Walmart plastic $13.99 special?
Pit boxes, custom or not so custom?

I was thinking more along these lines. I saw this box about a decade or so ago. It belonged to a gentleman named Jim B. I was wondering if anyone else did anything like this to their boxes.

My Dad built my box originally to hold his photographic equipment some time in the late 40s. I appropriated it in the 70s, made a few modifications, and have been using it ever since.
It's too big, and not organized very well, but I'm not changing it this late in the game.

Nice box Mike! Your assortment of stickers is still in very nice shape. Your dad made it, of course you don't want to change it. You don't modify great memories.
I intend to live forever! So far, so good.

I have a box, looks like this one, but was 1/2 the price...

also have 2 websters, a flight case, and a custom box made for me in the 80's... but the wheels do the trick.

Dean Markley strings. Forgot about them. I wonder if they're still around.
Anyway, a Ted Williams tackle box was my first slot car box. After that, the typical Plano plastic box. Finally, wood boxes. Also covered with stickers.

I made this set about 4 years ago. The top one holds two Carsteen controllers while the rest of it holds cars for my customers, extra bodies, and tires. The bottom one holds dremel, power supply, jigs, power strip, calipers, and anything else I might need on race day. The interior of the bottom one is also fully removable so if I need to in the future I can redesign just the inside. I wanted the doors to open 270 degrees so they are out of the way. Even with 1/2" pine the bottom box weights about 35 lbs.

Jim Williams the former owner of HVR made these for me. For most races I just use the bottom one. For big events both are used. He called them the Noose Deuce Boxes.
