both my grandfathers were conscripted into the Russian army around 1900, they ran away to America to be rid of all old world BS....

i have personally studied the area for years from the revolution to the Russian/German war this area has seen more savagery than most parts of the world

My concern is that he will not stop at the Ukraine. Putin is a gangster. When I worked for CWM I was a manager over about 375 people, and there was a huge number of Polish and Czech workers under me. Even here in the U.S. they were terrified of speaking against him while he headed the KGB. I helped about a dozen of them get permanent residency, and for a few, citizenship. They were some of the best workers I had.

There is a saying, "Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it". I see too many similarities to the Nazi invasions of the Second World War. Let's hope it doesn't happen again.

many problems stem from the collapse of ww1 era empires never properly resolved, democracy's take many generations to evolve and many people worldwide seem to prefer "strongmen" at least "their" strongman...just a little research led me to discover their are six different Jewish factions within the region, and who knows how many other ethnic factions probably ALL living in some type of fear

One of the best books I have ever read about geopolitical history in the 20th century was "Europe's Last Summer", which is a detailed history of the period from about 1905 to the aftermath of WWI. That war and everything surrounding it set the course for all the events after it, even to today.

2022 has many of the same ingredients as 1914.

Very worrisome. Vladimir Putin seems motivated primarily by ego, i.e. legacy considerations, rather than any rational considerations.

My full sympathies with anyone who has family or friends in Ukraine. Incidentally, Canada has the third largest total number of ethnic Ukrainians in the world after the Ukraine and Russia.

"World War One Day by Day" is an excellent web series as well as the dozens of academic lectures available on the web since the 100th anniversary of the WW1 I, all free.
