The third race of the 2018-19 Ohio Challenge Cup season saw racers tackling the tricky 165' Ogilvie Hillclimb at Haven Raceway & Hobby in Elyria, Ohio. Big fields and big names made this a round to watch.

GT1-B opened the day with 15 entries and it was Dan Halfhill setting the pace to claim his first OCC win at his home track. Jeffrey Henes came up 3 laps short on repeating his 2017-18 season win but still grabbed an impressive second. Longtime OCC racer Tom “TR” Rowell showed good form to take third. MMW regular Tim Burton came away with fourth by panels ahead of Haley Halfhill in fifth. John Halfhill made a rare OCC start and gained a sixth for his efforts over oval specialist Matt Easterday. HMS track owner Kit Henry managed a solid run to eighth ahead of Michigan's Floyd Wagner, while new treasurer Hollywood Joe Gerencser rounded out the top ten. Fastraxxx owner Chris Earnhardt also put in an appearance to gain eleventh ahead of the second Michigan Mafia member in the field, Johnnie Detroit, with NESCR owner Lester Lucas, returning racer Kevin Cosgrove, and Haven regular John Phelan rounding out the field.

GT1-A had 16 entries and tight racing through a stacked field. Finally making it to the track after getting surgically sidelined, reigning champion Eric Shirey picked up where he left off with a win by only five panels over Bud Bartos! Gil “I'm really only here for the food” Pataky still grabbed the last spot on the podium over Jeff Henes. Returning to the OCC after a long absence was Brian Lear who found a fifth place by panels over Al Rutti in sixth. Elmo Vallance took home seventh after missing the NESCR round, while Steve Peppler beat out Justin Porter for eighth by panels. Michigan Mafia leader Dave Decoster picked up tenth over Jim Pace Jr, with Brandon Barricello, Jay Sabala, Rob Voska, Bob Foster, and Cap Henry rounding out a very potent field.

After a big day at Haven, the Ohio Challenge Cup now heads to Bellevue, Ohio, for its annual trip to HMS Speedways. With the American King having received its recent rework by Gary Gerding and the added trick of GT1 on the Aristocrat, December 15th will prove to be a topnotch round including the first leg of the King of GTP Challenge! See you at the races!
