With threatening weather keeping many racers at bay, a strong field still arrived in Columbus's Tom Thumb Hobbies. This fifth round starts the second half of the Ohio Challenge Cup 2018-19 season on the second American Blue King on the schedule.

GT1-B, understandably, was hardest hit for attendance of the four divisions but the five racers on hand still made a fight of it with long-time competitor Joe “Hollywood” Gerencser grabbing his first win on the OCC trail. Another popular moment was Haley Halfhill's first second place, beating out her dad Dan Halfhill. Dave Doerschuk brought home fourth with Early Graybill experiencing early car issues and pulling off to wind up fifth.
GT1-B results
Joe Gerencser – 179
Haley Halfhill – 171
Dan Halfhill – 163
Dave Doerschuk – 161
Earl Graybill - 74

GT1-A had a full twelve racers in its field and it was a big win for Cap Henry with ten laps over second place Jeremy Wyant. Rick Starkey had a solid run in third over Boogie himself, Jerry Wyant. Fifth was Justin Porter, followed by the “retired from racing” Ron Vincek in sixth. Tom Thumb's own Eric Balicki claimed seventh by a single panel over GT1-A points leader Jeff Henes. Brian Lear found ninth place over Steve Peppler, with Jason Dennis and Mike Lear rounding out the field with mechanical issues.
GT1-A results

Cap Henry – 211
Jeremy Wyant – 201
Rick Starkey – 199
Jerry Wyant – 194
Justin Porter – 192
Ron Vincek – 188
Eric Balicki – 187.1
Jeff Henes – 187.0
Brian Lear – 179
Steve Peppler – 167
Jason Dennis – 145
Mike Lear – 127

Group 10 had a great eighteen deep field and Cap Henry showed strong as the Top Qualifier, to be followed shortly by another strong win over the #2 qualifier, Jason Dennis. The last spot on the podium was decided by panels with Jeremy Wyant getting the better of Mike Lear. Jeremy Dennis found fifth by a lap over Jeff Henes, with the top six all running better than 200 laps. Jerry Wyant was seventh, while eighth was decided by one panel with Steve Peppler ahead of Rick Starkey. Justin Porter rounded out the top ten followed by Brian Lear. Ron Vincek would have twelfth by panels over Eric Balicki, and fourteenth would also be decided by panels in favor of Joe Gerencser over Dan Halfhill. Earl Graybill, Dave Doerschuk, and Haley Halfhill would close out the field.

GTP also had eighteen racers and a very deep field, and this time it would be Jason Dennis grabbing the TQ spot over Cap Henry, but neither would prevail by the end of the last heat as Rick Starkey stood over the field with his first OCC win. Jeremy Dennis and Jeremy Wyant would hold the podium in second and third, followed by Cap Henry in fourth. Eric Balicki would have his best run of the day in fifth followed closely by Jeff Henes. Justin Porter held down seventh with Mike Lear in eighth. Late entry Kyle Snyder would be the best of the B-main and take ninth overall, with Brian Lear behind. Jerry Wyant took eleventh, and Haley Halfhill grabbed twelfth to a popular one-lap lead over Dan Halfhill. Earl Graybill in fourteenth was the last of the runners, with Dave Doerschuk, Jason Dennis, and Joe Gerencser all having mechanical failures while Ron Vincek decided to get a jump on the weather after qualifying and scored a DNS.

The Ohio Challenge Cup would like to extend a particular thanks to the racers and to Tom Thumb Hobbies for their commitment to this race despite the weather surrounding it. A lot of great racing was had and everyone was a huge help in ensuring the day wrapped up as quickly as it could.
We travel now to the last King on the calendar, Canton's own Mark's Model World on February 16. We look forward to seeing everyone there!
