Eight slot heads showed up to a Triathlon at Electron Raceway on 10/21/19. This weeks event included LeMans Trials, a mixed race and True Scale GT1. Track conditions were good and racing was quite competitive.

  • Several new rides were unveiled for the LeMans Trials. James OSCAR based GT40 took over the top spot in the Trials running a fine 4.681 second fast lap.
  • Bob ran a personal best of 94.0 laps with his 67 Camaro to win the Mixed Race while James was second with his OSCAR based GT40 and Rich was third with his 69 Camaro
  • Bob won the GT1 race easily with his Enzo. Rich, James, Joe and Mark finished second through fifth respectively

As mentioned above, James became the new top dog with his OSCAR based GT40 dethroning Richs OSCAR based Porsche 906. Rich fielded two new rides; a True Scale GT40 and an OSCAR based Corvette Grand Sport. Mike ran his True Scale 70 Camaro. See below for detailed results and images of the new rides

Mixed Race

The initial heat featured three of the top four seeds. Bob took the lead, running 23.0 laps. James GT40 was second with 22.6 laps and Richs 69 Camaro was third with 22.1 laps. Bob increased his lead heat after heat to win the mixed race easily finishing with 94.0 laps.

James and Rich battled for the second spot. Heat #7 was decisive. Going into that heat, Rich was about a half lap behind James. In heat #7, James ran 24 laps on his favorite lane (Yellow) while Rich was only able to run 22.7. That put Rich out of contention. In the end, James was second and Rich third nearly 2.5 laps down.

The first heat featured three of the top four seeds (Bob, James and Joe). Both Bobs Enzo and James Jaguar turned fast laps in the mid 4.6 second range. Bob won the heat with 23.9 laps with James second at 23.2 laps. Joe was about a half lap behind James.

Again, Bobs Enzo increased its lead heat after heat. Again Bob won easily running 96.6 laps. His lap total would have been higher; however, Bob backed off during the final heat to allow the battle for second place to conclude without a passing incident.

As the #4 seed, Rich entered the fray in heat #5 turning 22.8 laps (the same lap and section count achieved by Joe in heat #1).

Entering the final heat, it was Rich with 70.8 laps, Joe with 70.1 laps and James with 68.8 laps. With GT1 cars so closely matched it appeared that the finishing order would mirror the positions entering the final heat but that would not be the case. From the very start of the heat, Rich began to increase his lead over second place Joe. James, running on his favorite lane (yellow) and with nothing to lose, ran flat out. Joe made a couple of unforced errors and James closed the gap. Rich was able to run a fine 24 lap heat to finish in second place. James managed to beat Joe for the third step of the podium by a single section. What a finish!

A shout-out goes to Mark who ran a personal best lap time of 4.871 seconds with his Nissan R390. This car is quite competitive and capable of a podium finish. Watch out guys!
