I was ordering some basic parts to start scratch building a few chassis and they had the JK  Z3 4.5 chassis cheap, so I threw a couple on the order.

I couldn’t find any information about this chassis, or what it’s intended purpose was or when this chassis was originally introduced and I’m tying to decide if I should just build it the way it is, or cut it up and build it into something else.

I’m primarily interested in hardbody racing at BPR, but I am also not allergic to lexan  :) so, what do you think I should do with this chassis?

It was a 4-1/2 inch NASCAR chassis. I've got a couple of them, but never ran one.

This was the hot setup for 4.5 NASCAR in the late '90s to early 2000s. You have the heat-treated version which is the better one.

i would cut the pans off & hinge them. the chassis is a perfect fit from any tamiya porsche 956 or 962 model kit.

You need to check with Keith or Gonzo at BPR.  I don't think they allow "flexi" chassis in their hard body class's.  It's an ancient flexi chassis.  They handle fine-- for what their worth.

Thanks for the info guys. I bought 2 of them. I’ll build one as is and have both hardbody and lexan bodies for it and use it as a shelf queen mostly and When I make it up to BPR on non race days, I’ll rent some track time and run it for fun. The other one will go into the parts bin for it’s future to be decided later.

Can you show a picture of one that has been hinged?

Thanks for the offer, it’s nothing I want to do right away. Hell, if I hold onto it long enough it will be legal for retro racing eventually :laugh2:

I got a bunch of those back from when they were new, still fun to drive. If u add the hinge are they then legal for hard body stuff? Anyone officially find that out?
