Had a great time yesterday!

Good close racing in the F1 race.

Thanks for the live streaming of the event, fun to watch.

If we had a live shot of the monitor showing the leader board as well as the race with Clint Boyer calling the race it would be a real hoot!!!

Can-Am A Main has just started, and there's some fabulous racing happening right from the green flag.

Looks to me like no TI22s on the podium.

I didn't notice the lack of Ti22 bodies.

If I were to venture a guess, some of the new Kelly Lolas were used by some.

That would not be going out on a limb considering the number of Kelly sponsored people at the race.

Hey Eddie,

The Lolas that were raced were the Parma Lola and O/S Lola that were IRRA approved. The new Kelly F Lola is not legal until next weekend so we did not allow it.

I will say if it had been approved in time for this race the majority of the top guys would have raced it as it tested better than any other Lola or Ti22.

On my car it was 3/4 of a tenth faster and made the car feel really smooth.

Tony,

I can't tell much from the pictures I have seen but the F Lola looks a lot like the Parma only with a lip around the rear?

My car and the car I loaned to Aaron used the O/S T163 Lolas.

I have been using the T163 Parma lola for at least a year and a half now and used the O/S T163 Lola at the Fall Brawl.

I don't even try Ti22s any more.

I know several of the top racers were using the Micek Pro controllers. Looks like they were doing great in Retro racing.

Here is a picture of the O/S Lola T163 I raced and a comparison shot of the new Kelly Racing F Lola T163.

The blue and white one is O/S. The all-blue one is the Kelly.

I've added the podium cars pics to the Can-Am results post, as well as a couple of driver's panel shots.

Still have a slot car box tour post to make... probably later tonight.

Well, my first Retro race. Loved it.

Great people, great races, but mostly... felt and treated like family.

Danny,

Have you tested or raced this body on a Hillclimb track? If so how did it work compared to the Ti22?

My car and the car I loaned to Aaron used the O/S T163 Lolas.

I have and I like it better on every track I've tried it on.

I can't necessarily say how it worked better except I hit faster times with it.

Most racers still prefer the Ti22. I guess it's just a feel thing.

A popular feature of race coverages I've done in the past is what I call the 'box tour." So here's the Thomasville box tour, taken on Sunday, so no one should diss the messy pit spots. I think I got everyone's pit space, although I didn't bother to try to ID them.

After attending the race and ruminating for a couple of days, I'd like to add my thoughts and impressions about the Thomasville Retro event to this thread.

To start with the good news, this was probably one of the more enjoyable slot car events I've ever attended. I don't think I heard anyone raise their voice except to yell "Track!" and honestly there weren't that many of those. The racing was superb among the top guys, as good as I've seen anywhere. There were no problems with the tracks or the lap counting. There's always a little grumbling about the marshaling or the race direction at every slot car race, but even that was done sotto voce here.

The bad news is that we struggled optimising the live streaming arrangements, as I could not get down to Thomasville until late Friday afternoon due to other commitments. I haven't done much streaming recently, after starting doing so in 2008, and the streaming 'landscape' has changed enormously since that time. I'll do better next time, I promise!

Those who predicted that this event would be a bust were simply wrong. Tony Powell did a fabulous job at the tech table applying the IRRA ruleset. The racing was, as mentioned, great and the program was moved along promptly. It doesn't get much better than what occurred at the Viper Pit.

A number of other racers from Texas and Tennessee were expected to come, but power and weather issues understandably prevented their attendance.

If this event happens again next year, do not miss the opportunity to attend!
