Larry, if you do find a vintage motor to use, you can make buss bars for it out of 14 ga. or 16 ga. copper wire (Romex) & bend them however you need to for clearance. Interiors & inline motors often clash. Your car looks great. have fun running it. On some tracks, the Speed FX may like a 9T pinion, but try your 8T first. These motors have been around since the early 2000s & have good speed.

Larry, while painting the body, for some reason I felt the chassis was built by Dennis.
Now I am doubly happy to know you build as well as Mr. Sampson.
Also... if you need a Russkit motor, I can send you one. But I think not since you are using almost all modern parts already and that S16D looks right at home anyway.

Glad you like the blocks too Pablo! I ended up just ripping the slot with my table saw so it is just a tad under 1/8". But it looks smaller because my Porsche is so huge! Seriously, look at the drivers head in my side shot and then compare it to the original 906 at the top of my post ... Mike Swiss is totally right about the scaling being tweaked.
Bill, thanks for the motor info. I decided to start with that gearing first because it seems to work well with Hawk style motors. And the buss bar is a good idea if I ever manage to find a vintage motor. I remember that Steve Okeefe used to have a term for a making vintage style cars using currently available parts. This car may have to be one of those

Rick, glad you like the car and just know your build was what inspired me to make it. Eddie and Janet say hi by the way!
Jairus, thank you for the offer but I'm pretty sure I couldn't fit the Russkit motor without having to seriously carve up your interior and I'm not going to do that. But this just means I will have to send you the roller and not just the chassis next time. Better yet, I'll send you the chassis and you put in your Russkit motor ... and send it back to me!

Larry, I do miss going to Eddie's. A Blue King, a large flat technical road course, a scale 1/4 mile drag strip and good people.
Your wonderful vintage style car built for fun and using modern parts is a great solution to not have to do vintage parts scrounging. As has been mentioned, that's something Steve Okeefe has long tried to encourage here. For me anyway, scratch building the vintage style chassis is really the "heart" of the build and the most fun part of the project.
But (since I'm a vintage nut ) if you ever get the urge to a build vintage car and share the process here on Slotblog, I'd be happy to help with vintage parts for your project.

Thanks Rick and at some point, I'll probably take you up on that offer! But my next endeavor is making some Grand Prix cars as per the specs of Niels Elmholt's (Slices of Neckcheese) racing class in Europe. But in the "vintage style" spirit, these guys use modern motor brackets and parts so I'm good for now. Stay tuned!

Larry, if you're looking for vintage F1 bodies, Niels gets most of his from John Dilworth (aka Howmet TX) in England. Back when jail door racing was popular, Noose carried some of John's F1 bodies, but I don't know if he still does. Niels's F1 dimensions, if you need them, are in some of his online information.
