Build threads, to me, always seemed to have an unwritten rule that you respect the builder's thread. It's his thread, and it's about his build. You keep the posts relevant to the build, and you keep posts to a minimum, so you don't clutter up the thread.

That unwritten rule seems to be a thing of the past. Some good build threads get full of half/non relevant posts. It mucks up the thread and it's disrespectful to the builder.

Save the thread drift for other threads where it really doesn't matter.

I'm not sure what, but something needs to be done.

Seems to me you need to live by that rule yourself when you made an comment on Bags RX7 build post about why he posted a video. His post he can do whatever he wants as long as it follows Slotblog rules. I would suggest you keep quiet until you are perfect.

It's not a universal problem. Only certain builders took issue with it & they handled it on their own. It's easy to do, & I have, when you read the board with the [View New Content] button to save time.

Good point, Phil. You can see what I did; simply stopped posting my builds after 8 pages.

Getting treated in a public forum like a newbie after years of constant successful and well documented work was a big part of my frustration.

Now I see them starting to do it to dc-65x. Makes me sick.

Cheater will tell you one of the main causes is constant changes in communication technology, and I agree with him.

I know I sometimes contribute to straying because I feel compelled to respond to some remarks. I apologize for that. I do try to keep my comments sane and on topic.

It wasn't a build thread. DC-65x makes build threads. Pablo makes build threads, or at least use to. Jairus, Martin and others I can't think of at the moment make build threads.

The documenting of the building of a car from start to finish, that requires many post by the builder. A bunch of noise is not welcome in those threads.

I think most are too polite to say anything. In fact I don't recall a builder ever saying anything about post clutter.

I'm with you on the "view new content" button. I've been using it for years.

Too much off topic chatter that causes the thread to lose its focus is a problem it would seem all over the online social world.

And then there is live performance, where certain people in the audience feel that the performing artists are just a background for their (loud) discussions about how interesting their lives are.

Some people apparently have no respect.

Get some pointers from Pablo. He didn't like tangents in his build threads yet dealt with them in his own way. Other builders have their own outlook.

I would think 8 pages of step by step chronicled build threads with photos and explanations would be plenty to satisfy anybody, eh?  :)

Who could possibly do a build thread, documenting each step of the build in detail with many posts, have a different outlook other than, "Please don't muck up my build thread with a bunch of off topic garbage posts!"

Just because they don't say anything about it doesn't mean they're OK with it. They should all be more like Pablo and speak up.

What more evidence do you need, Bill? You of all people have become part of the problem, which I never would have thought. You have befriended Mark and the two of you exchange off topic posts all the time. Mark? He can't help himself. You know better.

What you don't see or know about is all the off-topic posts I constantly corrected for spelling/grammar, edited for bad content, or simply deleted. In many cases I took the time and effort to PM the offenders and explain my reason for editing their posts.

Nowadays, most guys post without any consideration as to who they are speaking to, and what forum they are in. Now we have a guy posted a thread in "Scratchbuilding" with a photo of a spring steel factory made chassis. I even commented on it, but nobody really cares any more.

Guys are posting off their phones and many of them are simply reacting to the previous post.

"Gator Bob Era".

DZ wins the Internet, today. Lol

Someone with his own forum should have the ability to lock his own thread.

IOW,if he wants it to be an uninterrupted build thread, free of drift or unwanted advice, he would post and lock.

He could open it up at the conclusion, to accept his compliments, if he wished.

Of course readers could be liking posts as it goes along, even though it's locked.

He could stipulate at the beginning that awesome advice could be PM'ed to him, and of course, he could credit that person in a subsequent post.

Regardless, Slotbloggers don't need to worry about other people's business.

Everyone on here is an adult capable of defending themselves.

They always have the option to report a post they don't like if they feel they are picked on and don't want to engage.

An example is when I had a dispute with Bryan Warmack about a race report.

People were both posting and PM'ing me about how I was being mean to him, like I was teenager shoving around an 8 year old, on the playground.

Be fully aware, he is an adult capable of defending himself.

We have had squabbles like brothers, pretty regularly.

And then he sends me a special pair of modified pliers, or a keychain made from the removed damaged tubing from a Porsche 917 Can Am car.

We were on PM's and later by phone, when we worked out the details of the joint SCRRA - IRRA race in April, laughing about how everyone was making a big deal out of it, except for us.
