The over-priced bidding could have been done by you, me, or anyone.  If the high bid amount actually is paid to the seller, it'll not be by one of us.  :to_become_senile: Overbids & walk-aways have been experienced by other online auction sites.

A little higher than I was predicting, but not much.

I just posted that hoping some of the forum experts would chime in. The price is insane. I'm surprised there's virtually no interest in it. Oh well.

Well, I am glad that Dave does not want to debate, because Phil is correct.

From the BaT website, under FAQ, Common Bidder Questions

"During the last 2 minutes of BaT Auctions, the clock resets to 2 minutes after every bid. This happens until no more bids are placed and the auction ends. This gives everyone a chance to place their bids and gives sellers a chance to sell to the true high bidder."

GunBroker.com extends the bidding 15 minutes for every bid that increases the price. Otherwise, it's the same as BaT bidding policy.

Many auctions end in the middle of the night (time zones and all) and having only a 2 minute time to respond seems a little short.

I was going to comment on this but have been crazy busy.

While I love vintage slot cars because I lived that era, I don't follow vintage prices very closely because it doesn't serve any function to keep my raceway open.

But with being friends with Mark Mattei, and chewing the fat with him (& Dave Crevie) over many late Saturday dinners, I can't help but to know Phil's post wasn't really serious and was most likely made to stir up things.

My almost uneducated guess was more in line with Martin's.

$900-$1,200

If the $12,000 bid is legit, IMO, it was made by a fabulously rich person who wanted it as an ornament for his man cave which probably houses a an impressive car collection.

BTW, if you want to see overpriced, I just finished up lunch at Five Guys.

A few pennies under $10 for a regular fry and regular drink. Lol

Do they still give you free peanuts? I haven't been to the local 5 Guys in a while.
