Mark, what type or markers are you using? Paint markers or ones made for paper? I use both on interiors. Different brands often need different cleanup solutions. Thats why I keep paint thinners, lacquer thinner, lighter fluid. naphtha, etc. around in addition to various others for acrylic paint cleanup. ISO alcohol can be a good airbrush cleaner between color changes of most, but not all acrylics. ISO seems to clean whatever types of markers you're using. I usually use acrylic paint on interiors because they dry flat. I picked up a set of regular Sharpie markes to try Eddie Mac's process, but I have no reason to try them out now.

I couldn't get over how heavy my Hoffman box was yesterday. It only has my one assembled car but it is packed with arms, tools. & other stuff. If I ever took it racing again, I'd first have to clean it out to make it lighter,

Consider yourself lucky! Some people would probably kill for what you have in it!!!
The paint markers are, I think, generic " craft smart" Michel's house brand?
Like a new girlfriend, they take some getting used to 😳

One tip for beginners is to try asymmetrical stripes or patterns. It leaves much more room for error and it gives a slightly custom different look. There are very few rules to painting and most have to do with the materials or procedure. Design is whatever your brain can come up with. You are the only person who knows its a mistake.

I've had paint crack with huge gaps because I forced the drying with a hairdryer. I simply shot another contrasting color under it and nobody knew the difference. Looked pretty cool too.

Due to a change in plans, I decided to paint the stripes first. This entailed masking around the previously applied tape that I had done using the role as a plumb bob. Not to brag but, damn!!!I got it real close without measuring!!!
When I paint, I try to do a few bodies at once. Why? because I'm lazy and I hated cleaning the air brushes that I previously used. Also, I hate to waist paint and it seems like I wind up with enough of it when I'm cleaning the air brush to do another body.

Masking around applied tape is more work than I want to do. I'd find an easier way if I wanted dark stripes on a light colored body.

Didn't like the numbers so, I erased them. Seems like painting the darker colour first was going to be more of a pain than I felt like addressing. So, let's see what happens.

Here's one way. Paint your light colors first, then back them with silver. Remove your masting & paint your dark color(s). if you don't like number masks on the inside of a body, cut masks for the outside of the body & airbrush them or brush paint them with an acrylic. If allowed where you race, you could cut numbers out of colored plastic tape & stick them on.

💤💤💤 Too much to dream last night
Too much to dream
Instead of trying to measure and layout the masking, let the masking do the measurements. You might be surprised how far off some of the bodies are!

Here's a few more tips
1) read the label. Nothing worse than confusing candy red for racing red until after you've pulled the trigger.
2) Did you check ALL the masking seams
3) Did you just use lacquer for the last colour or, was that acrylic?
4) Have great LIGHTING and, at least, some ventilation.
5) Double check for scraggly lines and over spray from the last coat.
6) NEVER EVER use
a) A toaster oven
b) a heat gun
c) a unit heater, electric or,steam/ hot water base board
d) a microwave oven
To DRY the PAINT
None of these will work
7) no,duck tape will not work as a substitute for masking tape.
🙄DUH🙄

You have learned a lot! In 35 yrs. of airbrushing lacquer, I never once had to heat-set the paint. I found with the correct amount of lacquer thinner used, the paint dried quickly. With some paints I used a 6:! ratio of thinner to paint. Heat-setting is used with the slower drying acrylics. I found a hair dryer on a low heat setting worked best. Mix your paints in a cup or jar, not your airbrush. Get a roll of vinyl shelf paper for masking. On a mirror or pane of glass, you can cut all sorts of masking shapes. I use both clear & a solid color roll.

i've been using a hair dryer for over 40 years on everything, especially with the water-based paints. you have to shoot light coats before it become opaque & drying them in-between is the key.

I told her it would be of great help if she shook the cans😜.
I tried to return the masking to Mikels ,on a Thursday evening. Baaaaaad move. Not only was it packed but, the pumpkin spice ***** sent was overwhelming.
I'll post some pictures of (no, not of the cans) the airbrushes and a review. Unless she comes back.

I guess that depends on if you feel you have graduated from basic painting or not?
