FYI:  The Pittman '65' series IS smaller with an armature about 13mm diameter which was/is used to hop-up the DC 195/196 and DC60-63 series inline type motors.

The Pittman 85/Ram/Destroyer are virtually interchangable parts.  The armature is much larger in diameter than the '65' series.  The Ram 850 has the thicker laminations of the other brands and the '857' has very thin lamination  for improved magnetic  effect.

Pittman also made an improved motor with thinner lams, the DC-84, but it must have come out very late in the game, because I don't remember hearing about it at the time. Will try to get a photo up when I can.

The thinner field lams made it easier to taper them down to the length of the arm stack. A practice most pros did.
