I know here on Slotblog, that there are many collectors of the many slot car publications from the many years of our hobby. I am asking for some information regarding Scale Auto Racing News (SARN) from those that have knowledge.  I have a near complete hardcopy print version run of SARN from the first issue over the next thirty years.

I am trying to find out for sure, what was the last printed issue?  I have the "SEP/DEC" publication that shows Volume 29, Issue 5 on the cover. Is anyone able to verify if SARN remained in print beyond 2008? Does anyone know with certainty what the last printed issue was?

Thank you in advance for anyone that can tell me this information.

As an unrelated side note, I am always looking for any digital or surviving copies of the following old slot car publications.  If anyone has issues, please reach out to me - I would be interested in even electronic images of certain issues.

  • Somebody's Got To Eat It (Trinity '70s era newsrag)
  • The Thrash-O-Gram (Camen '70s era newsrag)
  • The Racing News (1977 era from southern California - Chris Burlew)
  • HO Coast-To-Coast (pre-1976 published by Marty Thalison of Bronze Man Products from Ionia, MI)

All appreciated,

Mark Rosenwinkel

I have three issues from 2009 up to 30/3 May June 2009.

I have some doubles if you are looking for any.

Good luck with that, it rarely came out on time and missed publication sometimes for months on end.

l remember at least once the long advertised "Holliday Gift Guide" finally coming out as the "After Holliday Gift Guide."

Magazine publishing was not one of John Ford's strong spots. That said, whenever an issue did make it to press, l eagerly read every word over and over.

I am in need of a few specific issues of SARN if anyone has them available for trade or sale:

  • 1984 Vol 5 #1 (if it even exists, not sure)
  • 1988 May Vol 9 #5
  • 2005 Feb Vol 26 #2
  • 2005 Mar Vol 26 #3
  • 2005 Fall Vol 26 #9
  • 2006 Aug-Dec Vol 27 #5

With thanks,

Mark Rosenwinkel

I used to write for SARN and Slotcar Bulletin. I would use professional wrestlers real names as authors, mostly for fun but also so that The Bulletin looked like there were more than two of us LOL. "Local Racer" on OWH finally noticed after I did it for many years!

"Local Racer" was quite the character on OWH until they finally kicked him off for good. :laugh2:   I forget his real name, but he once was a very good wing car racer in the lower wing classes.

This is a common practice in the magazine world. One mag I edited had one guy write as much as three-quarters of each issue's content and he'd use a different byline for each article.

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

Deep appreciation to those that helped and contributed.

I am now missing only two issues of SARN:

2005 Vol #26 Issue #3

2005 Vol #26 Issue #9

Lastly, if anyone owns or is aware of any hardcopy issue of SARN after 2009 Volume #30 Issue #3 please let me know.  This is the last known issue in print that I have been able to determine.

Happy New Year!
