Here's something you might enjoy Martin. It's a picture from the movie "Grand Prix":

Perfect for a slot car version of a movie "fantasy car".   :)

The scene from the movie was an aerial view of one of the stars (Jean-Pierre Sarti ?) passing everything in sight going down a long straight.

That's great Rick  :good:  I would think the prop guys faked this F1 car by looking at pictures or the real car that was at the race.

But there's the "Hunchback" and the (fake V12) pipes coming from each side  just like the Lancer body has slots for.

I think making a model of the Grand Prix car would work. Did Lancer copy the movie car?

Glue Bomb (Simon) I've found that obscure is the best, no matter what you apply it to, usually.

The Eagle is a rare bird in this movie, Ferrari and Honda having most of the screen time.

I did look for some more shots of the Eagle as I skipped through the movie.

Rick, I am not sure how you even found that shot you found? It took me 30 mins to find this . But great research Rick. :good:

What a great movie, some great action shots. I will have to watch again.

When I get back to making this car I will have to find or make those 3 into 1 collectors ?

For those who have not seen this " Making of Grand Prix" well worth a look IMO "This can never happen again".

Thanks for that link Martin, for pushing for a positive ID also - I've one of those in a box also and it stands a (marginally) greater chance of getting done now that i know what it is !

Poking around i found a thread from 10 years ago that came to the same conclusion as above:

http://slotblog.net/...oco-eagle-1968/

That Indy build is close to what I was visualizing - PDL mentions drawings from MC&S but maybe they're the ones posted already ? Am guessing they'd be mid 66 if they exist...

Yes, absolutely this.

Thanks Simon for that link of the conversation back in 2013 also looking for the real car, all of which came to the same conclusion.

PDL said "The Lancer body was patterned after a drawing in MC&S by the late Jonathan Thompson, of what the new 1966 Eagle Formula One car was to look like. However the real car was never built that way, so the entire rear end of the slot car body is incorrect."

So I reckon the Grand Prix movie car is as real as it gets  :)

Other movies by John Frankenheimer:
1) the Manchurian candidate
2) Black Sunday
3) The Train
4) Seven Days in May
5) 52 pickup
On a personal note, aside from Gran Prix probably being the best movie ever made, right up there with:
1)LeMans,
2)Caligula,
3)Gremlins and, of course,
4) Beetlejuice.
The Manchurian Candidate is probably#5.... Oooooooooh, DUH,The Dusk Till Dawn trilogy is tied for first with Grand Prix.
Go ahead, blast my choices!!!
