For the record, I am waiting on the tech sheets to post all the results and tech parts. Also trying to get the website back up and up-to-date... been more difficult than I thought.
Archie, my heart goes out to you and the USRA officials.
I did results and photo posting for many years, and in few cases, it was even slightly appreciated.
People demanded different photo angles of the winning car close-ups of its motor, etc. News flash - when the results and photos are posted, it's too late to go back and get more photos.
Most of the time, I was either at the event as a participant or as a volunteer reporter on my own dime for all expenses, with one notable exception: only once did the organizer graciously offer to pay for my room while I was at the event.
Once, a well-known slot car website owner phoned me and asked why I wasn't submitting anything to them since I was at the Nats. The simple answer was that I was on vacation, and nothing had been arranged with them beforehand. Similar situations have occurred in the past, where it was assumed that I was going to use my time to report or promote the event without any arrangements being made ahead of time.
I still pay the hosting fees for the past event photos since I don't want them to disappear. I could probably migrate them to a "free" server, but the physical move would be a lot of work, and finding and changing all of the addresses pointing to where the photos were moved to would be almost impossible.
As you said, it is a lot of work, and at some point, I just felt that I should use the time I had invested in slot car race reporting for other things.
