That's a sad end for both driver and car Lee.
I finally got to work on all these parts I pictured earlier............
..........starting with the tail lights. I avoided using my shaky paint brushes by cutting out decals for the red and amber lens:
I thought I was done but these closeup photos show me I still need to do some flat black touchup painting:
Overall I'm happy with this fun little project within the larger overall project. To me, that's what scratch building is all about....FUN!

There are lighting kits for the home set cars that have head and tail lights, plus working brake lights. If you are just building the car to have fun, there are lighting kits available that even have brake lights. This from Slot Car Corner;
Overdrive also makes light kits, and are the ones I use. They are hard to get, though.

I don't do lighting in my cars but if anyone is interested in how MESAC handled lighting in their Enduro class cars, click on the link below to check out Rodney's cool thread:

I got this nice decal sheet for the Ferrari 312P from Pattos Place in Australia:
I chose the number 51 car for my project. Like my body it has no headlights and no rear tail fins or spoiler:
My version will more of a fantasy livery than an exact scale model. But at least it will have these nice decals on it that are all trimmed out and ready to go:
1/16" pin tube made up the roll bar:
The roll bar mounts in the car at quite an angle. I'm attaching it to a piece of plastic strip. A little vise clamped at that angle in a bigger vise gets the roll bar attachment holes drilled:
I tried all the usual sports car interiors for this car and none seemed "right" to me. Then I remembered that Rodney said the 312P was often referred to as a Ferrari F1 with a sports car body attached.
I tried a Lancer F1 car interior and that's what I'm going with:
I've done all the detail painting as best I can and it's time for final assembly:

I really like this car. Thanks Victor and Rodney for giving me the amazing MESAC body:
An "almost scale" car with PRO car running gear:
This one is my new favorite:
I like the look of the staggered wheel diameters, 13" fronts and 15" rears:

Thanks Don.
Those are the same wheel inserts right out of the package Mark:
The only thing I did was add black to the wheel centers as seen on the real car:

I'm hoping that you'll build the cross hinged MESAC chassis that I posted to your Porsche build. I've been wanting to do one since 75. In 49 more years, I probably still won't be able to !

So, it's a weekday morning and you have to go to work. You get up, clean up a bit, and get dressed. You walk out to the garage, and climb into one of these. You fire it up, wait for the oil temperature to come up. You back out onto your street, and head towards the main street out of your neighborhood. You are upshifting at 7000 RPM, and you glance in the side view mirror to see lights coming on in the neighborhood homes as you pass. There are even a few heads peeking out of the front doors to see what's going on. You drive to the nearby McDonalds and get into the drive-through lane. You order two egg McMuffins and a McCafe. You find a place to park, and finish your meal. Then it is off to take the expressway to your job. You find traffic is moving pretty good, but still only at the speed limit. So your patience runs out, and you just start passing everything you see. You make it to your job, and pull into the parking lot. No one is here yet, so you just settle into that reclining seat, and enjoy the sunrise.

Pretty sure this film has been posted here before. Lots of stories on how it was actually made, but most claim it was filmed from a 2CV or Fiat 500, and the sound dubbed in later. The original title was "The Date".

I did a lot of crazy stuff back in the late 60's and 70's. It was not unusual for me to be driving around with uncapped headers and cheater slicks on the rear. Looking for a race. It didn't get better when I got into sports cars. I drove a Porsche 917K over a county highway when I was helping to move some museum cars to their new facility. And I drove my Genie, 914/6 and Elva to car shows in the area. I have an 8mm videocassette taken by a friend, riding in my E-type home from an Irish pub that was across the street from where the local car show was. Lucky we didn't get killed that time.
As Rod sang, " I wish that I knew what I know now, when I was younger". I guess that also goes for common sense.

While digging around in my Bunch-O-Bodies for my next project I came across another Ferrari 312P body.
It's a Kirby Lexan Ferrari 312P as used by Lee Gilbert in his famous Car Model Magazine articles:
Kirby called it a 312P same as the Ferrari factory did:
A super low body with a very long nose:
That Pro style body shares much less with the real car than the MESAC version shown below that I was lucky enough to build:
