Carie offered $15 bins of her fathers, George Ewing's slot parts who had passed. I think she was able to sell it all here on

Slotblogs racer swap shop?

I saw this chassis and thought it had potential and was worth saving. Top pic.

Here also are the pics Carie sent me of George's rod chassis when I ask about it.

Now I have it in my shop I can give it a clean and choose a suitable body and running gear, suggestions welcome.

Wow, that's a lot of brass rails!

And solder. That was the design for a while, when belly pans were being cut from 1/16th inch thick brass sheet. The brass wasn't easy to cut, so the easy way out was to fab the pan from lengths of brasing rod soldered together to create the cut-outs needed for the motor, wheels and drop arm. Worked great, but the Dynamics die-cast frames with brass pans added still ruled the roost.

I thought lots of solder also when I first saw it. Can anyone share more info on George Ewing? There are more than 245 George Ewings in the US & I'm not familiar with any of them.

Without pin tubes, would the body have been held on by tape? That's something the British did for a while.

Once I took a good look at this chassis it was easy to see that outer 3 rails on each side were added at a later date. They were not cut flush with the original chassis and generally  kind of uneven, and not of the same standard.

I unsoldered them cleaned up what remained and exposed a nice narrow F1 car chassis ready for any number of bodies that will need TBD.

It's always nice when you get a hunch and it turns out to be a well made chassis. Happy with this one.

Not sure if it's that old? Can somebody date those wheels for me. I guess those could have been changed though?

You are correct Larry, so I got rid of 6 of them. :)

Your also correct Bill, :good: all my original U.K. cars were taped on. But in the case of an open wheel car it's easy enough to punch an axle hole with a slit to slip over the axle tubes at the rear and the axle supports in the front. It will never be raced in anger so if it stays on for some practice laps I will be satisfied. If that does not work, there is always tape. We shall see.

The fronts are Parma. Very nice wheels but not rare.

O-rings for them are easily obtainable at any hardware store.

Thanks Paul, do you know what decade they could of been sold ?

I am sure I can rustle up some suitable O-rings.

They were still being sold into the early 2000s. Parma sold them as 5/8" dia. (with the O-rings) as fronts for the GTP flexi class. Parma also sold them solid without holes. I don't know exactly when Parma started selling them. It wasn't the 70s, we had Aguirres then, but my guess would be they were introduced in the 80s for the brass kar chassis or maybe even their first flexi, the Flexi Kar.

Martin, that chassis cleaned up nicely!

What Bill said.

Also, by using different thicknesses and OD's of O-rings, you can adjust the front ride height of the chassis.

No need to glue them on, either - just use something that is a nice stretch fit.

Pipe cleaners and metal polish inserted into the small holes will shine them up real nice.

Great tips guys, maybe I can find another pair so I can cut them down and make inserts to fit and match the rears.

I like to have matching wheels front to rear.

I don't recall if anybody made a tapered 5 hole rears that would match well?

Looking for an condenter that fits the chassis. I have new bodies, but my goal in life is to match old bodies to old chassis  :sarcastic_hand:

Anyway these are a few that do fit O.K. but there maybe a better one tucked away in a shoe box if I dig deeper.

On the left are the O-rings that will work on the front. The fattest ones work best I just came up to boil some water for the install. They are a little tight, but they do give me the .050" (ish) off the ground.

Do you have Russkit F-1 bodies or Tom Andersen repops  squirreled away? I had a 2-piece Russkit Eagle with separate molded engine detail & interior that was nice. Andersen had a variety of F-1 bodies before he disappeared 6-8 years ago.

The Parma fronts are "Pro-Lite" part #70291.

They come with a set of O-rings, so that gives you one more choice of tire sizes.

And It might be that Mike. I really just eyeballed it. Did not even have rear wheels on at that point.  I think the (ish) was key there.

Thanks Pablo, more choice's  :clapping:

I will look deeper to find an old body that fits well and feels in keeping with the chassis. I do like to use a old body on an old chassis.

Cannot go wrong with an Gurney Eagle, that's for sure. :good:

Martin, I've got a few Dynamic F1 true scale bodies,if you'd like, I'll post them, take your pick. Yes, Ferrari's
PS: the matching of old bodies to old chassis and motors is what led me to Slot Blog. It's been a adventure,to say the least.

And as it should be. When I ressurect one of my old wrecks, I always try to use the same type body I used when I built it. Only makes sense.

Adventure on my little droogies.

Thats a super nice offer Mark, but your going to need those down the road for your stable, no?

Victor's or Gene's are the only bodies that are equal to or better than an original.  Certainly my choice if I can not find an original.

The front wheels for the rear wheel inserts arrived today. Thanks Pablo  :good:

I plan to turn them down to .495" so they press into Russkits rears.

Russkit extra wide rims arrived form E.D.

I found the time to turn the front pinwheels that Pablo sent me into rear wheel inserts. Thanks again  :good:

Have not glued and trued the new rear foam but happy with the front to rear match which was the goal.

That is a H&R rear rubber tire slipped on just to get a look of what it will look like when done.  .875" will be the finished o.d.

Thems some bada** chromies!
Translation:
I really like those rims a lot.
As a personal preference, I'd run a medium version on the front. Your way is more in tune with the original and, it's going to look great regardless of what I would do. Just love the rims.

Thanks Mark, are you suggesting a wider front?  I wish I had such a thing.  Is there such a wheel and tire?

I have used Mark H's body pinning fixture to locate new pin tube to match the existing holes in old bodies. Works great.
