CAN-AM CONCOURS ANNOUNCEMENT for NERR and MVH RETRO MARATHON RACERS:

If you are planning to run in the NERR Can-Am race on Saturday, April 12, we are going to be handling the concours judging differently than in previous NERR/Retro Marathon events.

For the Can-Am race only, concours judging will be emphasizing realistic, scale bodies with consideration given to historic accuracy that is true to the pre-1970 Can-Am era, with the focus on quality of the execution, creativity, and effort expended.

A wide variety of race cars competed in Can-Am, including Brabham, Lotus, McKee, Chaparral, Lola, Ferrari, Shelby, Porsche, and McLaren, to name a few. Maybe, just maybe, consider entering one that doesn't begin with the letters Ti ?

To level the playing field, resident New England “Concoursmeister” Dave Gesner has agreed to bow out of this one!  He will, however, serve as a judge. You are encouraged to submit your own work for this event.

To encourage your creativity and participation, there will also be generous REWARDS! The first-place car will receive a $50 Modelville Hobby Gift Certificate while second place will be awarded a $30 Certificate and $20 will go to third place. Plus, each of those top three finishers will receive a delicious pie from Cambridge, Massachusetts' top pie bakery, Petsi Pies.

Hope to see you at the NERR race on the 12th or the entire Retro Marathon starting on the evening of the 10th!

IRRA Can Am Rule E.2. "Racers are encouraged to present cars with scale realism."  Very few, if any, retro racing groups emphasize this rule in judging concours.  This goes especially for races where the racers judge concours, because few racers pay attention to E.2 and instead go for the paint jobs that pop.  Many pre-1970 Can Am cars had one-color paint jobs; very few had multi-color sponsor paint -- I've always loved the Castrol BRM's.  And, of course, there was Oscar's slot-car-track McLaren with the removable cars.  Anyway, just sayin'.
