WOW!! For the next GRRR race of 2025 we are going to Aaron Scott's fabulous Viper Pit Raceway in Thomasville, GA, for a big two-day event to be held on June 28-29. This will be something really special as it will be a combination race with many, if not all, of the Southeast Retro Racing groups coming together. I've already had a lot of interest about this race so we should have a really good turnout with some top drivers attending. This is one you won't want to miss!

Owner Aaron Scott has arranged for a special rate at the Western Motel just a few miles from the track.  You will have to mention the Viper Pit by name to get the special rate which is $80 per night for a room with two beds.  I've stayed there and it's just fine, nothing fancy for sure but it was clean and fairly modern as I recall.  There phone number is (912) 580-8948.

Here's what we've got planned so far but some details could change so check back often

**UPDATE** (6/24/2025)

-Track hours will be 8:00 am - 11pm Thursday-Friday.  7:30am - 11pm Saturday.  7:30am until the end of racing on Sunday.

-Pit Pass for Thursday and Friday will be $10 each day.

-Cost per race will be $17 (no Pit Pass on race days).

-Tech will run from 9:00am-9:30am both days, after the first race (all mains) ends there will be a 1 hour lunch break.

-Tech for the second race of the day will begins shortly after the lunch break.

-There will be a one minute qualifying run for each class to set the no-move-up mains.

-All races will be run in a 3 minutes "on" 2 minutes "off" all-mains format.

-Plaques will be awarded for 1st-2nd-3rd places for each class and for Overall Winner (determined on a points basis).

Jay Guard:

What is the definition of the nose of the body? I would like to know the IRRA definition of the nose of the body.

Thank you

Brandon,

Probably the simplest way to clarify that would be the area above the guide post. Measurements can take place anywhere forward of the windshield.

Is this the IRRA definition of nose of the body? Or one man's opinion?

The post above sounds legit.

I'm just looking for clear direction.

Don't say IRRA rules if you use hand-out tires.

I thought that was the case.

I'm a stickler for following the rules!

That is the biggest reason why I race IRRA races. Any where I go to race the rules are the same no matter what.

Jay/all:

Any help with the following is appreciated:

Will the raceway be open on 6/27 for test & tune? If so what hours will it be open?

What time will the raceway open 6/28 & 6/29?

What time will tech begin for the first class of the day on 6/28 and 6/29?

That Daytona track can be set up to run with the infield or without.  But there's a third way!  It can also be set up so that the outer four lanes run the tri-oval while the inner four lanes run the infield.  We've raced on it with that setup, and it works remarkably well.  The outer four lanes are the best lanes for running the tri-oval; the inners are bumpy crossing the "railroad tracks", and the inner lanes work great running the infield.  And of course, since everyone runs every lane, it's fair for all even though the outer lanes are racking up 2X as many laps per heat.

Anyone up for that?  I don't know who would have the final say, but I do know that Aaron can change the setup in minutes.

Hey, it was nice to meet y'all today. The racing looks fun. I wanted to stay and see the F1 style cars; did anyone take pictures? But I had to jet out.

Hope to see y'all one Monday after I convince the wife I need this hobby.

Best,
Aaron (the newbie)

This was a wonderful weekend and sincere thanks to Aaron Scott and his crew for being such outstanding hosts. Thanks also to Jay Guard for taking on the thankless job of tech inspection. Thanks also to Jay for the setup, etc., advice that he gave to me.

The nice weather kept some people from attending, no doubt. I mean, I had other things that I could have done with my weekend... But I committed to attend, and I did. The locals and the GRRR regulars taught me some valuable lessons and next visit I feel I will be a bit better prepared.

Even though it was a challenge, the Daytona 'road course' was entertaining and it certainly would have been more fun to run it with something other than Retro Stock Cars. Next event I hope that they run GT Coupe to simulate the 24 Hours of Daytona in scale.

It was a busy weekend for everyone who attended, which made me appreciate the folks who took the time to introduce themselves and to chat all the more. Thank you, one and all!!

For sure, I will keep an eye on the GRRR schedule and do my best to attend another race this year that is 'drivable.'
