The Viper Pit's official results from the weekend's retro bash are included below, and I must add it's been a while since I've had so much fun. Not only did I witness excellent driving but I got to see old friends in addition to making some new acquaintances.
Designed as a meet between retro racing leagues, the GRRR-SERRA-SGRR ("South Georgia Retro Racing", a fledgling Viper Pit group), we had a wonderful weekend of racing and reminiscing. Bottom-line, there are discussions to make this as an annual date on GRRR's calendar, as well as that of SERRA and SGRR.
Overall, Jeff Bonanno won the overall event championship. He drove superbly in every race and swept the weekend's slate of events! I am also proud of our locals (SGRR), who took several podiums. The SGRR members were:
Ray Bedal
Hugh Hampton
Rusty Hanson
Kirby Palm
Rodney Polen (his first retro race)
Wayne Thomas
I wish to congratulate all contestants, some of whom drove long distances to attend the event. Let's do this again!

This was the first GRRR (Gator Region Retro Racing) combo race held at the Viper Pit that included racers from the Atlanta SERRA (South East Retro Racing Association) and local Viper Pit retro group SGRR (South Georgia Retro Racing). There was a total of 58 entries this time and I feel that was pretty good for our first combo race event. In fact we are planning to make this an annual event and hope to have even a bigger turn-out to include some other retro groups (and other racers) in the future.
Here are some pictures from the GRRR / Viper Pit Combo race. Check post #28 above for the qualifying times and lap totals.
First up on Saturday were 13 Stockcars ready to run on the beautifully reworked Daytona Tri-oval with the infield section in play.
BTW... You really need to see the Daytona Room to appreciate what an amazing job the owner Aaron Scott has done with it. From the huge 60 foot long wall banner of the real Daytona Turn 2, to the over 60 feet of pit space that has great lighting and ample power outlets, you won't find a finer slot car facility anywhere in the country.
MG Brown (hamming it up a bit) made the trip down from way up north, Clyde Romero from Atlanta, and "Fast" Eddie Hoffman from St Petersburg (claiming some sort of victory?) pre race.
This is the B Main Podium (From L to R): 2nd Donny Caron, 1st Terry Tawney, 3rd Kirby Palm
This is the A Main Podium (From L to R): 2nd Jay Guard, 1st Jeff Bonanno, 3rd Hugh Hampton
Up next was the F1 race held on the awesome Viper Pit Engleman track which owner Aaron Scott and local racer Wayne Thomas have worked on tirelessly to bring it to as near to perfection as is possible for a slot car track.
Here are the 12 F1 cars in the Impound Lot (aka Parc Ferme') with some really beautiful paint jobs.
The F1 B Main racers are ready to go!
(L to R): Hugh Hampton, Kirby Palm, MG Brown, Eddie Hoffman, Clyde Romero, and Nathan Pickett

OK now on to Sunday for the GT Coupe race on the King track and the Can-Am race on the Engleman.

It was super close for third between Wayne and Jay (who was closing fast) but it ended up with Wayne ahead by about half a lap.
Here's the 16 Can-Am cars in Parc ferme', all teched in and ready to go. Driver Rusty Hanson looks on.
The cars are lined-up for the Can-Am B Main race.

Finally the award for Overall Winner was given to Jeff Bonanno who took first in every race (interestingly he did not TQ in any race).
This award was determined by a point system that gave 10 points to the winner down to 1 point for tenth place.
