1966 issue of the set.
The Dino is not so common in this version with the lights.
Chassis are 1966 pan issues with TC32 motors, the best Strombecker ever issued.
This set was re-issued in 1967 (as can be seen in their 67-171 catalog) under the same name but with number 9810 and two different cars, still using the same running gear, a Chaparral 2 and a McKee.
Enjoy! :)

Tires may be an issue... ;)

Stopped by a couple of Hobby Stores hoping to find some tires. They barely had any slot cars/tracks, but definitely NO ACCESORIES. I did find one place with some commercial tracks and it looks like they have LOTS of STUFF. :) They just happen to be closed Monday & Tuesday! RATS!! ;) I bought a carpet and started to set the track up in the garage. Everything is cleaning up real nice. Man, I need tires. You would think the cars were on black ice!P2100228.JPG

Told ya! :laugh2:
Electric Dreams has Ortmann tires that stick like glue. All you have to figure out is which will work. I would bet on Monogram repros, front and XW rears... :)

:D Looks to be all here, but I would characterize it as "Good" shape as compared to "Excellent" shape as advertised.

Phil,

I hope your comment about "good" shape was tongue in cheek.... If not, you are one hard guy to please! That set looks fantastic and the cars appear to be un-used.

I'd say you did very well! Congrats!

 Sorry about the HUGE PICTURES. My laptop doesn't have a program for editing, at least that I am aware of. I just loaded them directly from the camera.

As far as GOOD vs Excellent, I stick by that comment. Cars have definitely been run and have not been maintaned(dirty/mis-adjusted/wrong brushes). I don't think this set was used nearly as much as my original one. OK, you have convinced me, the set was in "Very Good" shape! :D

I found a pair of Scaletric #RH1003 tires that will fit and now the car actually moves around the track! I may order some JelClaws ST-115 to try for front tires.

When I can edit the pics down I will post more.

And seriously, overall, Very Good is how I will now think of the set!

Phil,
All laptops have some form of an image-editing program. Try to find the "Adobe Elements" program and open your pictures from there, then check for "picture size" and put the top number at 800 pixels max. :)

Notice at the following e-pay bid:

http://cgi.ebay.es/R...S...A1|240:1318

is a reference circuit H3 Strombeck-Becker, the seller actually gets the correct year to date (1959), this circuit with 2 cars originally 1:24, but only kept one.

1:32 The other 2 cars do not correspond to that circuit, are higher.

In particular, the Jaguar D type 1 red is 1960, which has set the first 1:32 of Strombecker chassis and engine red 6V therefore from motorkit or circuit Economy. However the green crown is a replacement post 1961.

The other blue jag D is even 1:32 later, a car is totally 1961.

Hi

Thanks for the pics!

I don't remember seeing a track set with the 1/24 cars. Where I was, I saw the static kits and other kits available to motorize them for "round the pole" and rail racing. I still have the 1/24 mercedes F1 and the Lancia. One has a scaleextric gymbol slot mod with it that I tried briefly but removed. In my local shop in rural New Mexico, I never saw the kits for the Healey and MG or the cart. So, I am not sure about them.

In the day, I did, about early 61 add a Healey, but it was the Revell kit. Recently that got re-issued.

I did see the Strombecker Aston Martin, and built it in the day, but I haven't seen one sense, it didn't survive long. Got replaced by a Merit body I think. I am not sure because so many of them didn't survive the frequent military family moves I was making.

But the style and pics always trigger old memories.

The set should be here Tuesday!!!! :yahoo: I am contemplating taking the day off from work! Man, I am SOOOO Excited! I probably shouldn't get my hopes too high for fear of being dissappointed  .......... But only two more days, WooHoo!!!!!!! :dance3:
I would like more suggestions on some cheap cars to run especially for friends and/or thier kids so the original Cheetah and Dino don't get trashed.

Congrats, Phil! This is the best part of model racing, seeing someone waiting for a set or car and getting the butterflys just like when he was a kid!.... :D :i-m_so_happy: :yes3:
Phil- I might have some extra pylons in my basement if you want them. I don't know that they match exactly but if they are still there they were never used. Send me a PM if you want 'em..... :)

Phil,
My first slot car set was a Strombecker with a white Porsche RS-61 and a green Lotus19 with plastic chassis. The set had a flagman that my father never could figure out how to get working properly. It was Christmas 1964 or 1965. He set the track up on the basement floor. My mother joked that he really bought it for himself. I was about 10. I still have the original cars. I bought several sets of Porsche RS-61s and green Lotus19s with plastic chassis on eBay a few years back. The tires were useless. I found a place on the internet called Tiny Motors, who sells replacement tires for the older home set cars. He carries a set for the older Stromys called Mini Bites (Sounds like the name of a cereal doesn't it)? These tires work with several types of wheels. I measured the wheel dimensions with a dial caliper and he hooked me right up. These tires work great. I have a track set up on a 4 X10 table in the living room and my friends and I have a blast with these cars. They are evenly matched. The guy at Tiny Motors is a decent fellow and his prices and shipping are fair. I bet if you told him what cars you have, and give him the dimensions he carries the tires for your cars. Before you altar the rear end of your cars, you might want to give Tiny Motors a try. :)
