I know that there was a hobby distributer in North Reading, MA, A.J. Gonsalves, that used the tub that I own as a mold to make several others in various colors. He used a fiberglass shop in Nashua, NH, to make the tubs and would supply the buyer with Tomy track to make the layout.
This was in the early '80s and he was selling them for, I think, $600 for just the tub and track.

The fiberglass base that is at Modelville Hobbies ia a very rare bird. I know of only one other that presently exists in Colorado. The base and original wood and braided track was made by Stan Englman for Car Model Magazine in 1970. The track was advertised around May or June of 1970 in the magazine. The very first one or two advertisments were a little different than the later advertisments. The two tracks had minor differences. The Modeville track in the later version.
Peter Lentros actually owned the Modeville Car Model Track. It was only stored at Modelville. It was purchased from Richies Hobbies in Springfield, MA. Over the past 20 years plus, Peter was asked by many H O drivers to sell the track. Peter refused. He planned on restoring it himself. I called Peter around June of 2009 and made an offer to buy the track base It was not until Peter saw my H O Nuvolari that he knew I was the guy who should own the Car Model Track. It should be noted that when Peter first purchased the track over 20 years ago, it had all the wooden braided pieces. Unfortunatly, we think an employee accidently threw away the original track pieces.
I purchased the track base from Peter. I do consider the track as owned by both of us. The base is now being restored and repainted. The two major problems with the original track was the original leg pedestals and the wooden braided track. The pedestals were too small for proper support so Richies Hobbies did away with them and installed regular table legs. The second problem was that many H O cars did not work well with the braid rather than track rail.
Since we were now missing the original track pieces, it was difficult to have copies of the track made. Fortunatly, over time, while stored, dust accumulated on the fiberglass when the track was on the base. The dust crusted from moisture in the room and formed a perfect outline of the track suface
Peter brought in a engineering firm to scan the track and develop a 3d CAD model on a disc. We are currently making up templates for the track. As soon as we establish that the templates are correct, we will then have a C&C machine cut out the track pieces. The pieces will be then shipped to Escondito, CA. were Brad Bowman will hand route and rail the track. The track needs to be hand routed because of the 37 degree bank. I think there are photos of the fiberglass on this siteunder Ameican Sovereign arrives in Ashland or under a heading about Modelville Hobbies moving. Thanks,
Stez

I have an orange one where the track was replaced with AFX snap-lock track, but it is in storage for now.

Bob, I remember that very well , I used to frequent Gonsalves quite a bit up until about the early 90s. Not to get off topic but, what ever happened to them? I tried to get a hold of them a couple years back, and I guess they are no longer in business . To bad, It was a great place and I used to give them alot of business.
Bill, I'm sure you must remember them?

Haha I know Buzzy since the early 70's. Bought tons of stuff from him over the years. He can be difficult but can be pursuaded. Money talks in brooklyn. I grew up 10 minutes away from his place. Last time I was there was probably 10 or so years ago.

Sorry to get off the subject . Peter Lentros of Lentros Engineering and associated with Modelville Hobbies in Ashland Ma. is having a 1/24 scale style American Sovereign aka Purple Mile built in H O 1/64th scale. Peter just recently posted pictures of the original Purple Mile that he has been restored by Gerding/Silky this past week for Modelville. This Purple is the original prototype Purple and may be the only one left in the world. Please take a look at these photos of the Purple and you can see why I'm pretty excited about a H O Purple Mile. To see photos go to General Slot car Racing. The post is under American Sovereign/Purple mile in Ashland. Go to post # 174 for pictures.
Also, this Ashland location is were my H O 1970 Official Car Model Magazine fiberglass based track is being restored and will be it's home.

Slot & Wing Hobbies in Rantoul Illinois had a yellow tubbie which was sold in the 80's some time. Their other store in Champaign Illinois had an orange one which when sold went to either Chicago, or Colorado somewhere. I've heard rumors of another orange one in the area but haven't found anything yet. IF there is and it is possibly for sale, I will make it mine!
My ex-brother-in-law was stationed at Chanute AFB. When we would visit them I would ride to the base with him, he would drop me off near Slot & Wing hobbies. When they opened I would spend all day there until he got off work. That was the first Tubbie I ran on. They had a lot of NOS stuff there. I kept in contact with them for a while until the Dad passed away. He was selling me the stuff real cheap. The Daughter found out and quit selling to me. That was the place I got my first Specialty Chassis car, the yellow coupe. At that time it was a rocket!
Thanks for the memories!

Cap was awesome! I started going in there in 1969 and spent a lot of time in there up until they closed. My daughters marshall both the Tubbie and the 1/24th track whne they were old enough to rach the cars. Cahnces are good Marty we may have raced together at one time. I collected a lot of pit boxes when the guys stationed at Chanute would ship out.

What a great way to collect cars!! I'll bet there were a lot of guys that didn't want to carry that stuff with them!
I went there early to mid 70's.
Didn't they have a track on base too?

Not sure if you're still on here but the Rantoul store was outside the north gate at Chanute. They opened one in Champaign and Jim Simmons worked there.
Not sure if you or anyone else raced at CU model Raceways buy that was my home for a number of years..
Not sure where my HO stuff is but I still have my 1/24 racing "stuff"!
