I got a '67 Howmet turbine 1/32 scale from Patto's Place. He even has (had?) decals.

MPC made a 1/25 scale kit that could be adapted.

I kinda think John Dilworth (HowmetTX, if that's not too broad a hint) would be chagrined to hear this. I'm lookin' at a pop of this one right now, all hunkered down right there by my Samsung flat-screen all expectant-like, keening " Do Me, MEEEEEE!!" like a begging puppy.

Duffles

EDIT: John's got decals too, I think.

Duffles, that car was a total loser in racing, so why would you want one? :)

I believe that John Dillworth (Homet) had done a vac form, mold of the Homet car not sure of what scale it was in though. Maybe he will see this post answer up about it. I know I saw pictures of him working on the mold on the SlotForum site.

Only one, but it was, unlike the TX, a brilliant design.

The Howmet was a McKee rather obsolete tube frame with a slow-going helicopter turbine that COULD have been competitive if it not take half a day to get it to speed... wink.gif

Its only true advantage was light weight, but a gas turbine takes its grand time to get going, so the project was doomed by simple calculation, which apparently Ray Heppenstal failed to do before spending beaucoup money.

Besides that they had no engine brakes and the period Girlings or Kelsey-Hayes were woefully inadequate. Eventually it did get 917 brakes, but it still had a problem slowing down...

But I understand the attraction of the underdog... smile.gif

Here is the body kit complete by John Dillworth in glorious 1/24 scale.

Kit comes with body, interior, resin head, headlight buckets and another vac formed piece I have yet to identify.
Interior fits the body perfectly and the design looks pretty close to the pictures.

This one I am saving for a special occasion...

Did somebody call my name?

The Howmet won a lot of hearts over here in Britland when it raced at Brands Hatch in 1832 or whenever it was, with popular driver Hugh Dibley at the wheel. It certainly caught my imagination and never let go. I've made vacforms in both scales, and a resin version in 1/32...

Posted Image

These are the two 1/32 babies - a repop of the old British GT Models in vac, and my own resin version in the background.
Edo's pics of big brother are better than mine.

Jairus - that other bit of plastic is meant to be the bucket for the Chaparral 2 style nose lights. Difficult to fit and leave room for the guide though, I admit. You have to have the nose riding above the guide to use it. I prefer the car to sit low with the guide tucked in behind.

As the very, very great Steely Dan put it;
'There's a name for the winners in the world- but I want a name when I lose/
Call me Deacon Blue'

I'm a big, big fan of Deacon Blue cars. Lotus 40, anyone?

The answer, good Doktor, is I think it looks COOL! I need a copy just to fawn over. Thanks Duffy and Larry, for that info! :thank_you2: I need to send a PM right now to Howmet (the guy, not the car)!

As I said...

But I understand the attraction of the underdog... :)

:)
My good friend Chuck Haines restored one of the two cars but could not get one of the original turbines because they cost $250K... same issue as in trying to restore one of the Lotus 56, the engine costs too much money so the surviving examples all have the wrong turbine.

Maybe - just maybe - McKee will bring the Howmet out yet again at ROAD AMERICA HISTORIC RACES this coming weekend. I will be there. Camping at the Carosel or out in the back forty at Plymouth Rock....

I didn't see the TX on the event entry list Larry, but often people bring "display" cars that aren't officially entered.

The only running TX is owned by a French guy living in Luxemburg because of the truly insane income and property taxes levied in France on anyone above the poverty level.
