Just at random I tuned into the web stream from WIDR-89.1 Western Michigan University (one of my very favorite radio stations) this morning and they were playing the audio portion from an episode of "Tom Slick - race car driver", cartoon short that was part of the "George of the Jungle" TV Cartoon show.

Tom Slick (TV series)

Freckled, all-American racecar driver Tom Slick (voiced by Bill Scott using a voice similar to Dudley Do-Right) competes in various races with his trusty vehicle, the Thunderbolt Grease-Slapper. He is accompanied by his girlfriend Marigold (voiced by June Foray) and his elderly mechanic Gertie Growler (also voiced by Bill Scott in the manner of Jonathan Winters 'Maude Fricket'). The two women do not always get along well. A recurring antagonist is the evil Baron Otto Matic (voiced by Paul Frees), and the Baron's stupid lackey Clutcher (voiced by Daws Butler impersonating Frank Fontaine), whom the Baron had a penchant for hitting across the head with a monkey wrench. Seventeen six-minute episodes were made.

There are some episodes on YouTube.

That's thirty minutes away. I'll be there in ten.

I do remember Tom Slick!

Which is actually kind of surprising since only sixteen episodes were produced.

Here's the first episode - "The Bigg Race", which debuted in September 1967.

(FWIW all of the YouTube Tom Slick videos seem to carry the "trial version" tag.)

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

And don't forget his race car, the "Thunderbolt Greaseslapper"! :)

I am not a doctor, but I played one as a child with the girl next door.

I loved the intro music to "Tom Slick". "In the Thunderbolt Greaseslapper he'll be on your tail". Awesome!

Tom Slick... that was my nickname for a while in the '90s... running S16D GTP and 16D NASCAR... (some of the "older" guys knew what it meant, but the younger guys didn't have a clue...).

When I would recite the entire Super Chicken beginning theme from memory, they would look at me kinda funny like!?

PS: Always remember..."There's no such word as fail in auto racing, Marigold!"

How about "Hot Wheels"... the cartoon show... IIRC 1969... and "SkyHawks"... they ran one after the other, I think on ABC? Half hour shows... typically Dexter's Demons would try to cheat and the Hot Wheels (good guys) crew would give us all a "life lesson"... cheaters never prosper...(not talkin' about you, Greg.. :) )

Skyhawks was made by the same animation company... they are rather obscure... only ran for one season, I think?

How about The Wacky Races? (Dick Dastardly, and Muttley also led the Vulture Squadron, to "Stop That Pigeon"!!!)

Edit: I found a "Hot Wheels" clip:

I agree!

Getting tangential as it were, what Saturday morning wouldn't be complete without "Liddsville"?! Considering that era of the American social experience, ya think there was a bit of a double-entendre in that title? LOL.
