Checkpoint Cup 2010 is approaching soon

It's only 6 days until the Second Checkpoint Cup at BPR!
I will post a roll call (later this week on Slotblog) requesting all those racers who plan on participating in the Checkpoint to respond. In particular, we want to know how many racers will be arriving from out of state (or out of SoCal) and what races are everyone planning on racing. Update: the roll call has been posted (see below in the forum section for the Checkpoint Cup Roll Call).
Besides the roll call, I will post a request for race sponsors (for each race). Just like the Sano, we hope to have a sponsor for each race. Race plaques similar to those given at the Sano will be presented to the podium winners (first, second, third) as well as one plaque for concours for each race. Updated 12/10/2009: We have sponsors for all of the races. It has been decided that the race plaques will include the names of "all" sponsors rather than one sponsor per race.
Besides race sponsors, we will seek sponsors for the lunch during Saturday's Can-Am race. A dinner (at a local restaurant) will be held after the Can-Am race on Saturday. We hope to have some sponsor funds for the dinner as well. We want out of town racers as well as the SoCal D3 racers to be a part of the dinner, so an interest list for the dinner will also be posted later this week.
Of course, prizes donated by sponsors will be sought also. Prizes donated for the Inaugural Checkpoint in 2009 were much appreciated and we hope to have those sponsors participate again. Photos of the race prizes will be included in the Checkpoint photo race report as it was for the 2009 event.
Race sponsors will be included in the Checkpoint Cup poster(s) being developed for the event. Sponsors will also be displayed during the webcast.
I am planning on having a webcast for all three days of the Checkpoint. A very experienced, well known personality will be helping out with the webcast (if he can confirm his trip to SoCal).
I will be trying a demo webcast during the upcoming Boola Bash at BPR (Dec. 11-13, 2009) in order to learn how to do it as well as work out the bugs before the Checkpoint in January. I'm planning on using at least two video cams in order to show the race monitor and track views (as well as closeup shots of the racers, interviews, podium shots, etc.).
Although the turnout for the 2010 Checkpoint may not equal the 2009 event mainly due to the economy, we expect the Second Checkpoint Cup to be better in many ways than the Inaugural event. The top racers are expected to be there again with some additional top racers this time. Saturday's only race will be the Can-Am, so we'll finish at a reasonable time! The dinner after the Can-Am race will be a great opportunity for all of us to enjoy each other's company and lastly, the webcast will give others around the country (or the world for that matter) a close up view of the Checkpoint and make others feel they are a part of the event.
Stay tuned for updates this week,
Keith

They figure that some of the entrants also race the full-size stuff and are interested in making sure that they are doing it safely.
You can see their great website HERE. It is pretty fascinating stuff...

Getting to Cup is rather involved for Jay and me. Next Thursday morning, I'll drive the 100 or so miles to Anniston, AL, hook up with Jay and then we'll head for the Birmingham airport, about 65 miles away. Our 3:05 flight out has us changing planes in Nashville (and laying over for more than a hour) before arriving at LAX at 8:05 PM local.
Coming back is worse: we have to change planes in Phoenix. LOL!
I'm really looking forward to the trip and, yes, I might even race!

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

We are going to have to establish a handicap system for the youngsters, like 5 laps for every 10 years above you and Duran, so that us geriatrics have a chance?
