Does anyone know the footprint of an American Orange track?

Thanks.

Isn't an American Orange the Blue King with a D shaped doughnut?

No Craig, you are thinking of an Imperial Red track.

THere is a picture of one on Gator RRR thread. That one is stretched to 120 feet. It's nothing like a Paperclip. I am not positive but I would guess the footprint to about 14-16 X 40.

A mini King with no big "S" of the dead man and finger. Originals had esses in the overpass and a drop off hill in the main straight. A moderized version is great fun to run BACKWARDS...using the 'top turn for the hairpin at the end of the fast straight.

I have the original 100 ft American Orange from the Slot Shop in Elyria Oh. It is exactly 40 ft long , 16 ft at the doughnut and 12 ft across the bank. Measured it many times. Larry, at Speedway Slots and Hobbies. speedwayslots.com

Good to see some of the originals have survived. Chriss Dadds made a 1990's (or later?) clone of the original exept for the double decker design process and it is still in operation in Desplaines, IL at Dads Raceway with the esses in the overpass and a dip in the straight.

Hey Amigos,

Once upon time there were two American Orange tracks in N. E. Ohio one at the Slot Shop Lorain, Ohio one at Shifters Raceway in Eastlake, Ohio. Fun Tracks to race on cut my 1/24 scale racing teeth on them. But alast the fun stop in 2005 the Slot Shop close up. Then in April 27,2007 Shifters Raceway ceased operations. Speedway Slots for one year did a great job of restoring the old Slot Shop orange. But I understand now that track is in storage. Shifters sold their tracks but I understand that the orange track became firewood! Now I learning to run the King Tracks in thea area. The orange tracks were more of gear track. Brute speed didn't guarantee a victory like on King tracks. Wish there was one still operating.

A quick set of specs on a Paperclip, I have one. It`s 25' X 40" and not really much like an orange as Rick says.
I`ve almost always had a great time on the Oranges that were in the area. Except for that darn purple lane onto the lead on at Shifter`s with the braid up in GTP...LOL. And it had a much smaller but more wicked "Bank of Death!" That darn catch fence caught many a car too. About all I can say is Wow!
Plus to my Amigo Jay, it always fun to race with you!

Race on!

. It's nothing like a Paperclip

The length and feel remind me of one, minus the esses. :) Beauty is in the eye of the racer. I raced on the Orange track for several years. IMO if you like racing a paperclip you will like the American Orange, but beware of humps down the straight and get used to the esses. It runs in the opposite direction of the paperclip we run here. Nonethless, its like I know these two tracks very well, like they they have the same parents, if that makes sense

Note: No punching the bank and back off quickly for the donut. Black lane was the fastest for me.

Sorry Amigo Mark,

The American Orange ain't no paperclip the ones I raced on went the opposite direction of the Paper Clip and King Tracks. Basically the lap will run into the high bank than into the short chute rounding the dead man coming out of the tunnel onto the donut while exiting the donut you will meet up with the esses then into the hairpin then onto the straightaway with the slight dip. The Paper Clip I Dread beacause the donut is setup backwards plus you have the short chute with a pair of 90degree turns on each side never could get a rhythm on that track ughh! I know I need more track time on the paperclip I say a have about 2hours Max on the Paper clip compare to 5 plus years on the American Orange about three years on the King.
No, no senor American Orange ain't no Paper Clip! Especially the Evil Orange of Shifters Raceway Bear of J&B Raceways ( he owns the local Paper Clip ) can tell you horror stories on that track and how the purple lane CRUSHED his chances of a Champion's Trophy in the OCC Series he will definite tell you these tracks are not the same!

Yeah ok, I know why I like them both. Flip over the Orange, take out the esses and add a short straight for the driver's stations in place of the leadon and you have a paperclip.

So, wanna go to Freeblog now?? :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

Another American (AMF) Orange in Nieuport, Belgium (about 20 minutes from Dunkerque in France), where we raced last September. Funny, the banking seemed much higher in person than in looks on the photos - but you still couldn't quite punch it! And those esses were a killer....
