The Viper Pit is a killer shop with a drivers Blue King, Engleman, and Orange track. All three tracks are some of the best I've driven on. Since there are only about three retro racers and builders in FL, what better place to kick off the races but at The Viper Pit which is centrally located between the GRRR racers, the SERRA guys, and Pablo's group from Mississippi. Most out-of-towners had around a four-hour trip but it was worth it.
The fast guys arrived on Saturday to practice with Noose having the longest trip of all from NJ via air with a multi-hour stop over due to ice storms. I had to work Saturday so I figured I was OK coming in Sunday morning; after all it was a King and I had run a few laps on it when Marty and I had a road trip up there a month or so to check out the place. Debbie and I got up at 3 AM and hit the road by 4 for the four-hour long drive. Well, when I walked in the door and saw Billy Gerhart from back home I knew I had to forget about F1 and make sure my Can-Am was up to snuff for the King, as Billy is "The Man" up north right now. Billy was on his way to Daytona to crew chief his brother Bob's car. Noose I knew was coming but Billy was a total surprise. What a nice suprise it was for everyone who attended.
"The Man" himself Billy Gerhart!
Tech was handled by Marty Stanley. What we tried was teching in both the Can-Am and F1 cars at the same time to save some time. It seemed to work fine and it also allowed everyone to vote for both concours events at the same time.
The field from the bottom. A bigger table is needed for next time.
F1 concours, Marty Stanley's Noose painted Lotus third, Noose's Lotus second, and Joe McIntosh's Cooper first.
Joe, Noose, and Marty.
In the Can-Am concours event it was the same three, with Marty swapping places with Noose for second.
F1 was the first even up and it was on the Engleman. The top qualifier was Ralph Thorne. (I do not have the actual times but the order for the F1 races.)

After the F1 and Can-Am race, those still awake ran the Flexi GT race on the orange track. Ralph Thorne was first followed by Noose and Greg Gilbert. If anyone has the rest of the results throw them up.
Speedy, Difalco, and Jay Guard in the "B".
Jay, Noose, and Greg.

You want food, The Viper Pit had plenty!
Jim and I haven't raced together in over 25 years, when we both raced for Trinity.

Good to see Russkit is forming another team.

Then it dawned on me.
Where's Tony's hat and leather jacket? I don't think I've ever seen a picture of him with out it.
Must be that Southern living.

If the Viper Pit has "150' pit spaces, lets start gearing-up for the Southern version of the R4...
Come on, Marty... 'get er done'
Hold it in the winter so Rick and Larry can get out of the snow...lol
We're scheduled to get another foot this weekend.
And, if I get any smart a-- comments from my rebel friends concerning the above, it will justify why I quit donating to hurricane relief funds.

Yeah, that worked real well this time for me now didn't it. Was nice where I was but I had to suffer the pains of the South starting to freeze over with two inches of ice in Charlotte and then way below normal temps in GA. It wasn't shorts weather, boys.Hold it in the winter so Rick and Larry can get out of the snow...
And Bob, don't worry. I am not moving down there. My wife actually likes winter and hates the hot summers. Weird woman.

Larry,On an oval...
Funny thing you should mention that!
Did we mention that in Thomasville there are two slot car raceways?
The other one, Tim's Slot Car Garage, has one huge tri-oval. I think it's about 130 feet or so per lap. One of the turns is banked, the other two are flat. The turn at the end of the long straight coming from the banking is very sharp. I think they keep the door open so the cars just run out into the parking lot on a deslot!
So oval racing can be on the program!
Thomasville is a great venue for slot car racing.
The hotel accommodations - almost brand new Jameson Inn with free hot breakfast for $55 a night is super!

Your leather won't scare anyone in Daytona about the first of March or so... LOL!!
If you haven't ever been to Bike Week in Daytona, you really need to go sometime.
