Can someone post a pic of a "small " Hoffman box. I have a couple of
the standard boxes ( 12" high, 8 car slots ) but not a small. Thanks

I believe this is a Hoffman No. 4 (that's what the eBay listing said).

What's the fishing tackle doing in your slot box, Bob? I keep mine in a tackle box where it belongs.

That same style box was my first "serious" slot car box . . . ah, the memories!

I believe that is a Champion box. I have an NOS one I purchased from Bob Rule sitting on my display case.

Bill, you don't think Hoffman originally built those boxes for slot cars?
Do you?

It's not a Hoffman but a Champion box.

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't all the Hoffman slot boxes have drop-down front doors that stay hinged to the box? And most of the Hoffman boxes I've seen are ink-stamped with the Hoffman name on the inside somewhere.

P, I know you've told me who made my boxes in the past, but I can't remember the company name. I have two boxes purchased in 1966 or '67. They look like Hoffmans but have a removable front door that is not hinged to the box itself. They are not marked with a maker's name.

Pictures, we need pictures!
I also have boxes where the top is fixed, have a drop-down shelf, are much sturdier than the Hoffman and are tinted into the wood (but not really painted) in shades or either orange or green. Does anyone know who made those? :?

OK, but what about a small Hoffman box? Is there a such thing??? Or just the
standard size that we all have?

Hoffman was in the business of making tackle boxes for fly fishermen. They had several sizes, including a smaller one. I had one when I was racing in the 1970s but I cannot recall what happened to it. It did open from the top and had a removable shelf, but it was not the same as the Champion box that was manufactured around Atlanta. All Hoffman boxes had the famous gold sticker and many were marked inside with an inked stamp.
Now there were several other companies making boxes in the 1960s, but don't you think that I already have enough on my plate documenting over 2,500 kits and RTR cars?

Small(er) Hoffman.

Posted Image
About 9 inches tall and 16 inches wide. Edo and Philippe will need to multiply those values by 2.5 to get those 'furrin' centimeters .
Four fixed car slots directly under the lid, the front folding down for a fair amount storage.

Box appears to have seen use at the Circle T Raceway in N. Hollywood, Ca. Center lock hasp no doubt added after some
yahoo snagged his favorite set of tires.

The 'Casler Slicks' sticker is cool, but the...

Posted Image
Crane Cams emblem (vintage Hallandale, before Daytona) is really unusual.

Was planning on doing a little show n' tell on boxes and cool stickers. Any one interested in more boxes?

The small Hoffman box built for Jose Rodriguez Jr.:

Posted Image

It has two drawers, one resting on top, the other sliding towards the front. Jose used this box for NAMRA 1/32 scale racing. The box contains eight cars and spare tires, tools and a modified Cox MKIV controller.
The museum has also recently acquired his 1/24 scale box (standard-size Hoffman) and his huge box of spare parts.

The name on top of the box says " KEITH SIMON" . Who knows where he is today?
The horrors inside that box, you would not believe
The smell is 1966 musty nasty vintage :snooty: Smells like death to me
But I love it anyway :)

If it smells, it might be someone's old tacklebox. :) Now show us the one you take to the races.

That pretty much describes my slot racing career.

Is that a Cox sidewinder chassis I see in there? :)

Wasn't that a hoot? Imagine, making a kids slot car chassis and wheels out of magnesium!?! Talk about your exotic building materials!

Below is an open shot of my small(er) Hoffman, noted earlier. Limited to 4 bays. Larger cars fit sideways. So, I have to be selective. But I prefer it over my larger one.

Posted Image
It doesn't show a number. But is stamped on the inside with:

Hoffman's
16243 Illinois Avenue
Paramount, California

With the sticker affixed on the outside:
Posted Image

The 'Rodriguez Box' that Doc is showing looks to be the same style as a 'Hoffman 1200'. Which is about 25% larger than the little box noted here and up to a 12 car storage, if the cars under the top lift-out are low enough.

pablo....One way to decrease the odor is to sit in the sun and try a 'humididry'. (I'm sure you knew that) ...love the Line/Loc, Jardine Headers stickers and of course Road Runner.
