Bill, you don't think Hoffman originally built those boxes for slot cars? :mrgreen:What's the fishing tackle doing in your slot box, Bob?
Do you?

P, I know you've told me who made my boxes in the past, but I can't remember the company name. I have two boxes purchased in 1966 or '67. They look like Hoffmans but have a removable front door that is not hinged to the box itself. They are not marked with a maker's name.

I also have boxes where the top is fixed, have a drop-down shelf, are much sturdier than the Hoffman and are tinted into the wood (but not really painted) in shades or either orange or green. Does anyone know who made those? :?

Now there were several other companies making boxes in the 1960s, but don't you think that I already have enough on my plate documenting over 2,500 kits and RTR cars?

From the looks of things, you could have used one of my rib-eyes on your plate. Now there were several other companies making boxes in the 1960s, but don't you think that I already have enough on my plate documenting over 2,500 kits and RTR cars?

About 9 inches tall and 16 inches wide. Edo and Philippe will need to multiply those values by 2.5 to get those 'furrin' centimeters .
Four fixed car slots directly under the lid, the front folding down for a fair amount storage.
Box appears to have seen use at the Circle T Raceway in N. Hollywood, Ca. Center lock hasp no doubt added after some
yahoo snagged his favorite set of tires.
The 'Casler Slicks' sticker is cool, but the...
Crane Cams emblem (vintage Hallandale, before Daytona) is really unusual.
Was planning on doing a little show n' tell on boxes and cool stickers. Any one interested in more boxes?

It has two drawers, one resting on top, the other sliding towards the front. Jose used this box for NAMRA 1/32 scale racing. The box contains eight cars and spare tires, tools and a modified Cox MKIV controller.
The museum has also recently acquired his 1/24 scale box (standard-size Hoffman) and his huge box of spare parts.

The name on top of the box says " KEITH SIMON" . Who knows where he is today?
The horrors inside that box, you would not believe
The smell is 1966 musty nasty vintage :snooty: Smells like death to me
But I love it anyway

That pretty much describes my slot racing career.
Is that a Cox sidewinder chassis I see in there?

Wasn't that a hoot? Imagine, making a kids slot car chassis and wheels out of magnesium!?! Talk about your exotic building materials!

It doesn't show a number. But is stamped on the inside with:
Hoffman's
16243 Illinois Avenue
Paramount, California
With the sticker affixed on the outside:
The 'Rodriguez Box' that Doc is showing looks to be the same style as a 'Hoffman 1200'. Which is about 25% larger than the little box noted here and up to a 12 car storage, if the cars under the top lift-out are low enough.
pablo....One way to decrease the odor is to sit in the sun and try a 'humididry'. (I'm sure you knew that) ...love the Line/Loc, Jardine Headers stickers and of course Road Runner.
