I think all the controllers out there are very good, but make sure that you don't lend it out? :laugh2:

Nesta, we want to know the serial number of your Third Eye Controller? Please look into this, as this is a festering boil to some people. Please let me know.

I mostly race low level scale cars with Falcons, Hawks, Super 16D, and GTP with Contenders.

Do I need the $400 Predator or will the Renegade work for me?

Had my Third eye for 3 years, fantastic controller. Till at the last club night I was running my new Mach Euro around fitted with a new 16 mag 19 of 20 490 arm.
the car was a missile. Running at only 100th out side the track record after only 10 laps. Then the Transitor went open circuit the car hit the wall at the end of the stright
braking the rear axle and smashing the magnets out of the can.
What can I say .
I dont know anthing about controllers but is this what happens when $1.50 transitor goes down, the controller goes full power. " you destroy a car."

We are all lucky as racers to have these manufacturers to build us great, great
controllers.

Howard's 3RD-Eye has given me the best ability I have
ever had as a racer who can't always compete from the drivers panel.

My DiFalco is one that Jim no longer builds and I won't sell it ever. Last week I tried the new HAMMER from Spain. The trigger is smoother than every other manufactured controller I have ever tried and the amount of adjustments is amazing.
I need to try a few more settings to see if it can work in Group 10 Racing. So far if the track power is off...just before the race goes back to green we all squeeze our
trigger right? Well right now with The HAMMER the way it came from the company if you squeeze to go before the track is powered the car doesn't go. You have to squeeze only after the track is powered up ....and that is bad news in a race.

But I'm going to try a few new settings and read about this great economical controller. I feel it may be a great piece for new young racers who can't or don't want to spend more than $120.00.

Just think of how difficult racing would be with the controllers of the 60's.

Carsteen. I also have a Ruddock DR 40 and 2 locally made trollers. The DR did a ton to improve my driving but the Carsteen is out of this world. It is all FET including the brake circuit. Everyone that has tried this controller is amazed by the brakes. And, being a FET controller it doesn't require a blast relay. Relays are subject to arcing and build resistance over time. The Carsteen has a built-in choke which I have put to good use even on motors where one normally wouldn't expect to need one. I can also dial in a bunch of choke for a newbie while they are just learning. It's great. Caveat- while I love my Carsteen, it still comes down to feel and how it works for you.

My experience has taught me otherwise. I have tested the resistance of a heavily-used 18 year old controller and the relay resistance was the same as a new relay (ask Garry Hayworth about this). Relays are more reliable than semiconductors. Semiconductors will blow instantly when they see a dead short and a relay takes more time to fry itself. Although a short can damage a still-working relay, which will add some resistance to it and sometimes but not always over time and use this high resistance can go away.

Good brakes are as simple as getting the resistance low enough that it does not matter what whiz bang gizmo the brake circuit has and the only way to know if the resistance is low enough is with a milli ohmmeter with .001 resolution. A standard voltmeter will only tell you that you have brakes but will not tell you how good they are. To measure is to know.

Ralph,

If you go here: http://www.slotcaril...ead.php?t=40903

There's an older picture of the controller. You may have to copy and paste the link into your browser....good luck!

I picked up a Third Eye Fetroller and used it at the CUC Enduro at Route 93, very nice! I also have a Carsteen and like it just as much.

I have a 3rd Eye Hitman.

It doesn't have any toggle switches but it does have the 4 DIP switches.

The DIP switches are Throttle Curve, which does the same thing as Difalco Traction Control but instead of having a knob to vary the amount of TC, the 3rd Eye DIP switches give you 4 levels of TC.

IOW, if you turn any one of the DIP switches on (up) you get some TC.  If you turn any two on, you get more TC.  Any three on you get even more TC.  All four on gives the most TC available.

The two toggle switches are for the choke. The one marked FTB is the Full Throttle Bypass that when in the "on" position, by-passes the choke at full throttle. The other is the on-off switch for the choke. The FTB switch is the main reason I bought my Fetroller...
