:D Not legal and really just a 5 minute fix to make it legal.

Thanks I'll let them know they have to fix the cars .
All in all about four cars that I know of.
I'll keep an eye out.
Next the double stacking .
I think part of the problem is they do not have the rules in front of them when they build the cars.

As TonyP states pretty succinctly, the cross brace supports the bracket and motor where needed & that's sufficient; and Joe, you don't gain crosswise strength across the rods where there's no distance across 'em, which is what a GP chassis looks like. Take it easy and trust that this'll all sort itself out.

And I'm firmly in the "fun to drive" camp, maybe because I'm not good enough in Retro to know what I'm giving up! Ahh, bliss of ignorance.

Hi

Rick, every friday, several of us race SURVIVORS with real 16ds in them for a lot more than 3 minutes each. Course, by the JD rules, not one of them are legal. All used pianowire and sheet even the 26d powered cars. Back then, none of us knew what "nostalgia" was going to look like so that we would meet the rules.

The following bodies by True Scale Products have been approved for Jail Door Sports Car Racing. Note that for those building a chassis to fit them, you would want one with a 3.750 WB and a .750 guide lead.

I'm sure Keith will post a pic of it.... Paul had a 2c built yesterday and it was fast and short as Paul likes! It's been too long to have this car body out there! Bravo! Victor.

Here's some photos of Paul Sterrett's recently painted Truescale Chaparral 2C:

As Noose posted, the wheelbase is 3.75". Paul's guide flag lead is 3/8" from the front axle. This car has lap times similar to Duran Trujillo's winning Checkpoint Jail Door car (also built by Paul Sterrett).

Nice bodies!

Just for correctness' sake, the Chaparral is a 2, not a 2C, and the McLaren is an M1B, not an M2B. Alternatively, it could be called a McLaren Elva Mk 2.

The McLaren M2 was a Formula 1 car.

The internet is a wonderful source of information. I did find on a site today dedicated to the Chaparrals that the Truescale Chaparral is actually a 2A (originally called a 2, but changed decades later to 2A, website on Chaparral history.

Paul's car looks really nice! The real cars had a little different white as I remember. What would you add to a white to get an off white?(yellow??)

Yes, all the whites back then were dirty looking and not as clean as modern whites used on today's cars.

I would add a drop of brown if it were mine

Keith

In the rules it talks about the fifth outer rail being tapered in so what about if you have the three rail's like in this chassis picture on post 31. Can it be turned in ?

In my last conversation with Keith Tanaka and Tony P (since Paul Sterret did not answer) it was concluded that the bending of the outer rail for tire clearance is acceptable. It came up because it apparently was being done already.
Keith noted evidence from back then that it was done. So if one builds a 3 or 4 rail version the outer rail can be bent in to clear the tires.

I will make a note that the next publication of the rules will remove the word 5th rail and will note the outer rail.

Noose, I called Paul on this rule when everyone was making such a big deal about other Jail Door Rules. They wrote the rule incorrectly from the beginning. As I told Paul, he was running an illegal chassis, according to the rules for more than a year. Out here, we changed it. Mill

tHANKS JOE. It was a problem for me, because they were being so stickling of the rules, then I found out that the head of the class was running an illegal car. This was after my car had to be laboriously changed. All water under the bridge now, but the Jail Door Class out here sadly became non existant, and the Jail Door F1 class was relagated to Me, Bryan and Keith having any cars to run. And the funny thing is, there are plenty of Jail Door Cars out there, just no one will show up to run them. Last race, CRASH AND BURN, and Paul loaned out 4 of the 6 cars in the field. Oh well, people vote with their dollars, and this class unfortunately will stay dead till the Checkpoint Cup. Mill
