59 Chevy but who's counting. Love the Rex White paint job. As far as I know Rex is still living in the Atlanta area.

Wikipedia indicated he was born in 1929. He'll be 92 this year. He only drove a Pontiac in 1961, it wasn't his usual #4. it was #47.

Always amazed at the range of cars you cover.
Revell Ferrari 250. My first slot car.
I notice the Black car has 3 side vents (U.S.Ca. car) the white car 2. Did you remove one?
Read this also....
"Two slanted air vents were on each side of the front fender, but while racing, a few GTOs were damaged and rebuilt later on with three vents to again help cool the engine."

Martin, I bet yours didn't look that good!
Rod, I really like the '64 Vette. The Cox wheels look really good on that car. My questions are which one is the fastest and what wheels are on the white car?

The white 250 GTO is roughly patterned after one that ran at Laguna Seca in 1963. Yes, one vent per side is covered over. I remember the wheels on this car being Ervco brand. They made lots of different wheels.
I am not sure what brand wheels are on the blue Corvette. They scale out to about 16" in diameter. I had one pair and purchased the second pair on eBay.
Regarding performance, the blue Corvette has a some of advantages with a French rewound motor, Parma crown gear, and a brass pan. The other two cars have stock motors. All three cars have urethane rear tires. I first tried aj's silicones on the black car, with little success.

Very cool, I didn't see the Corvette had a French motor. Ervco makes sense, they also made lots of anodized wheels. I think those are Cox American Mag fronts (the other you show is a rear as used on the Cheetahracha), they don't look like Dynamic.

Guys, they look like they could be (likely) from the Dynamic Renegade, which are bigger (and rare) than the more common Cox mags.

Did Rudy (Slick 7) sell that chassis as a full sidewinder? If so, the motor box appears to be easily convertible to anglewinder so that C-cans fit, by bending out the left pillow block & resoldering it. When we had local tracks, this chassis was not used, The Slick 7 GT-12s (Asps) were.

Thanks for the clarification. These Slick 7 Formula S chassis weren't run locally, even though we used a lot of Slick 7's other products.

Russ Toy was another Bay Area individual who was very good at putting scale wheels on a flexi chassis. I first saw his work in the VMRA reports. I do recall seeing the converted Formula 5000s being run in the late -70s. Good job with this Champion Astro build.

Looks good. Like the rear suspension.
International also made brass locomotive models for the model railroad hobby. The details were horrendous, but the proportions were spot on, and the drives were pretty good. Plus the price was right. While an O scale Max Grey or United loco would be $250 or higher at the time, the Internationals were $50. So I used several of them as basis for my builds. I built a Southern PS-4 from their version, with full backhead detail, using Bechtold and Backshop lost wax brass castings. It was good enough to get a first place in a model contest. Unfortunately I sold it shortly thereafter, the buyer offering a price I just could not pass up.

Interesting rear suspension on this little beauty. Lots of nice details although it is missing its classic side vents ?

With or without the side vents it's a very cool and unique build Rodney. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I love the wire over the windshield, I guess to stop animals from coming into the cabin. Did you do this detail Rodney?
The side vent comment was not a criticism of your build, hope you know I love that you are sharing your amazing collection.
Just wanted to let you know I was paying attention to the details.
Great old pic of the original car too.

Great build Rod. Very intested to see how your's runs... I've got the same chassis, but with a differential, and I used it in an Aston Martin DBR1 (Strombecker) many years ago. But because I took the easy way out for mounting, I basically locked up the suspension, so wondering what affect that has on its handling... The differential seemed to work pretty well, but the motor was lacking in beans, so it may not have been much of a test.
