This is another in my fantasy series of Mike Morrissey's Team Russkit "What if" cars. This time, "If one motor is good then two would be GREAT". ! Right ???? Well, probably not since you rarely see that configuration. But I'm going to give it a shot in my best Team Russkit style that I, a regular enthusiast, can muster.

No CAD design this time, just a 6 inch scale, pencil and paper. I set up the component placement using a maximum track width of 2 7/8" with Russkit wide rear wheels. This is about as narrow as I can make the motor bracket and still fit in the 2 Cox crown gears. There are several mistakes in my sketch. Apparently I can't add....I guess that's why I like to use a CAD system . The overall bracket width should be 1.6" not 1.8" and the 1.6" and 1.8" dimensions in the side view should really be .6" and .8". Good thing I "measured twice and cut once" .




I want to use a Russkit Ferrari 330P without having to flare the wheel wells. Here is a lovely Russkit Ferrari reproduction done by the Viceroy of Vacuum, John Dilworth:



Any who, I Duffied this neato bracket on my old Clausing mill.........



.........set everything up in my Rick's Jig............



...............started trying to bend some main rails from the motor bracket out around the wide twin motors......



.......and it was brass rod and tube CARNAGE!



A pound of brass later (K&S Corp. loves me) I've got a design and a pair of main rails and rear bracket bracing ready to build with:



Time to fire up the Ungar......Onward!

You taught me something today, Rikky: keep all the bad bits--the collection of slightly-askew bends that got cut off the rod & redone--they not only make great humor shots, they're good when you do a commission run and need 128 stuffers 1/4" long, 32 teeny tiny L-braces, 64 pin-tube shims...gee, who knew?

I always learn something from your builds!

Hi Jairus. You can build one too....I know you can build anything! You may want to wait to see if mine is a pony or a pooch .

Pablo. You can't use too much acid flux can you . More is better...just like 2 motors .

Sir Duffster. I'm tossing all the small brass bits. I feel I'm doing my small part to help the economy....."Buy Brass"!

With the main rails and bracket braces pre-bent the chassis went together pretty quickly. In no small part this was due to my Rick's Jig....a pin hole for everything and for everything a pin hole. I LOVE IT!. Here's the basic chassis all soldered up and covered with a quart of acid flux:



I've used extra long pieces to contact the jigs pins for alignment. They also come in handy to "drag" any excess solder away from the joints.

Rick,

You know, it you get John to wind you two identical arms.... one CCW and one CW then you can really balance things out. That way the gears can both be on the inside or out, and the car look visually balanced. Plus you get neutral torque!

Hi Mike, I don't know why but I ASSumed Bryan's was a 4WD . Now I'm more hopeful that I can get a 1966 style twin motor to work.....we'll see .

Guilty as charged; here's the only picture I found in my archives - the car is slightly different from the one posted above, mostly in the motors. I don't know if mine is the only survivor or not. Our Swedish friends, especially Ravajack, came up with quite a bit of history on this car when the photo first appeared in scratchbuilt.com

Back on track - Rick that is some absolutely beautiful work, as is expected. Have you ever thought of doing something like the Russkit dual motor Spyder Indy Car?

Thanks to everyone for the "multi-motor madness" input .

Now back to my own madness, the chassis went back in my Rick's Jig for the final 2 rails.....



....and to setup to make the drop arm. I'm using a Russkit Slant Guide so I had to use the guide to set up the angle Korrectly:



The drop arm and down stop were all left long to use the jig's pins for alignment:



Here all the crap-O-la is sanded off and ready to have "The Buff" put to it:



In keeping with my philosophy of "If it don't go, chrome it" here's the chassis with "The Buff" put to it:







A couple of details, here the main rails are "kicked out" to clear the dual motors.....
